Paper companies

Sonoco Asia
Sonoco Asia, a subsidiary of Sonoco Products Co., Hartsville, N.C., has announced several appointments to its management team. Perry D. Smith, who has been managing dir. at Sonoco Asia since 1994, was recently named a corporate v.p. Charles B. Griffin III, a 26-year Sonoco veteran, has assumed the role of gen. mgr. of industrial products for China. Eddie Chng, who has more than 22 years of experience with Sonoco, has been promoted to regional dir. for Southeast Asia. He will be responsible for growing Sonoco's operations in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, as well as new expansions in Vietnam and Myanmar. Kevin Bryans has joined Sonoco Asia as dir. of manufacturing operations, responsible for bringing operations up to world-class standards. Jocelyn Tan, formerly with Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautique, has been appointed dir. of human resources for Sonoco Asia. She will be based in Singapore and report to Perry D. Smith.

 

FSC Paper Co.
FSC Paper Co., Alsip, Ill., has appointed Leon Nelson pres. and CEO. He replaces Stanley Tamkin who retired Nov. 1.

 

Georgia-Pacific Corp.
The company has promoted Terry Cinotte to regional mgr., north central region; Doug Harper to regional mgr., southeastern region; Fred Mansur to regional mgr., western region; and Steve Klinger will assume full responsibility for the J&J Packaging locations.

 

Kimberly-Clark Corp.
Robert E. Abernathy has been named group pres. of health, nonwovens, technical, aviation, and world support.

 

Perry H. Koplik & Sons
V.p. of the Newsprint and Groundwood Papers Div., George Fellner, has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Graphic Packaging Corp.
The company has appointed Thomas L. French to the new position of COO.

 

Inland Paperboard and Packaging Inc.
Dale G. Nolden is promoted to international sales mgr. and Marc M. Tannenbaum to v.p., sales for Inland Eastex.

 

Mohawk Paper Mills Inc.
The company has named John O'Connell, district sales mgr. in Pennsylvania and Lee Battin district sales mgr. in southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico.

 

Beloit Corp.
The company has recently named Antonio Roxo group v.p. of the Beloit Pulping Group. Also, John Morrison has been appointed to head the Chemical Pulping Team for the Beloit Pulping Group.

 

Burrows Paper Corp.
Eric Deutschman has been elected v.p. and gen. mgr. of its Pulp Div. and Michael Kunz was promoted to v.p. of purchasing, sales, and admin. of the Pulp Div.

 

Hercules Inc.
The company has announced that Thomas L. Gossage will retire as chairman and board member. Pres. and CEO R. Keith Elliott will succeed him.

 

Celulosa Argentina SA
The company has resently announced that chairman Raymond Miezelis will resign in early February. He will be replaced by vice chairman Jorge Roberto Sanguinetti.

 

Hoechst Celanese
The company has named Perry W. Premdas senior v.p., finance, and CFO. He will succeed Harry R. Benz who will retire at the end of February.

 

James River Corp.
Alan R. Guibord has been named v.p. and chief information officer. He previously worked for R.R. Donnelley & Sons.

 

Alabama River Pulp Co. and Alabama Pine Pulp Co.
Both mills have named John B. Crowe exec. v.p./gen. mgr. Crowe replaces Luigi Terziotti, who is retiring, but will stay with the mills part-time as a consultant. Robert A. (Pete) Black Jr. will fill Crowe's position as v.p./mill mgr. Kenneth B. Fairly is promoted to v.p., human resources.

 

American Pad & Paper Co.
The board of dir. has made the following two appointments: Herbert M. Kohn is a law partner at Bryan Cave LLP, Kansas City, Mo.; Scott R. Watterson, Logan, Utah, is co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Icon Health & Fitness Inc., effective immediately.

 

Fletcher Paper Co.
The company has named Matt Foster v.p. of sales and marketing for the company's paper products. Previously, Foster was dir. of business development.

 

Green Bay Packaging Inc.
The company has announced that Brian J. Smith and Charles (Randy) Hudgeons have rejoined the company as sales mgr., Shipping Container Div. and mgr., linerboard sales, respectively. Both had previously held sales positions at Green Bay Packaging before leaving the company.

The board of dirs. announced the appointment of Victor J. Barnhart as chairman and CEO, and the promotion of Darryl G. Schimeck to pres. and COO.

 






BW/IP INTERNATIONAL INC.
The parent company of BW/IP International Inc. has announced that Jeffrey L. Zelms, pres. and CEO of The Doe Run Company, has been appointed to the board of directors.

 

METCALF & EDDY INC.
The company has announced the appointment of Rear Admiral Richard J. Guimond, U.S. Public Health Service (retired) as a v.p. in its federal services div.

 

BUCKMAN LABORATORIES
Daniel E. Glover has been promoted to sr. development specialist in the research and development department.

 

JACOBS ENGINEERING GROUP INC.
The company announced that Jacobs-Sirrene Engineers, a subsidiary of Jacobs, has named Michael D. Cruse to the position of dir. , pulp and paper sales, business development.

 

INTERNATIONAL SPECIALTY PRODUCTS
Joseph Boelter has been appointed v.p. and business dir., industrial markets, a business unit of the company, responsible for the overall business management, direction, and leadership of ISP's industrial business unit.

 

MERCHANTS PRODUCTS GROUP
James Doerr has been appointed to the position of pres. and CEO, MG Industries. This position will include leadership of all gas business activities of MG Industries in the U.S. and Canada. Jim Freeman III has been named corporate v.p./gen/ mgr., Merchant Products Group.

 

MOTION INDUSTRIES
The board of dirs has elected Ellen Hiller Holladay to v.p. of information systems, according to pres. Bill Stevens.

 

Wells Enterprises
The company has elected Philip Wells pres. and gen. mgr. Roger Wells has been elected v.p.

 

ABB
ABB announced a top management change, effective Jan. 1, 1997. Göran Lindahl, previously v.p. in charge of the Power Transmission and Distribution Segment and the Middle East and North Africa Region, will succeed Percy Barnevick as pres. and CEO. Barnevick, who has combined the two roles of chairman of the board and at the same time pres. and CEO, will remain chairman.

 

RITE HITE CORP.
The company announced the promotion of Paul Rowlett to v.p. of Arbon sales.

 

NEMATRON CORP.
Douglas B. Juanarena, pres. and CEO of Hampton, Va.-based Pressure Systems Inc., has been elected to the company's board of dirs.

 

Awards
Kruger Inc.
Pres. and COO Roland O. Cyrenne has been selected by the Paper Industry Management Assn. as the 1996 Executive of the Year. Cyrenne started at Kruger in 1960 as a paper machine supervisor at the Bromptonville, Que., mill. He became company pres. last year.

 

Deaths
WWF Paper Corp.
Retired paper industry exec. Edward V. Furlong died December last year at age 89. He was a former pres. and vice chairman of the board.
