CONSOLIDATED PAPERS INC.
John T. "Jack" Hurley has been promoted to sr. v.p. in the Sales and Marketing Div.; he was most recently v.p., marketing. In the Wisconsin Rapids Div., Jay C. Thiessen has been appointed asst. prod. mgr. and Richard L. Kryshak has been promoted to maintenance coordinator. In the Biron Div., James C. Gauss has been named asst. to the division mgr., Donald J. Wachowiak. He will be involved in special project assignments at both divisional and corporate levels; most recently, he served as advisor to the Wisconsin Rapids Div. mgr. and the sr. v.p. of the company.
Albert D. Ciardelli has joined the Paperboard Products Div. as production mgr., cores; and Jeffrey J. Zimmerman has been named core winding shift supervisor.
PAPERTECH CORP.
Robert G. Bower has been named mill mgr. He is responsible for managing all operational aspects of the recycled paperboard machine and for developing new grades.
SMURFIT NEWSPRINT CORP.
Jon E. Melkerson has been promoted to v.p., sales and marketing. He replaces James R. Tisdale, who has retired.
MACMILLAN BLOEDEL
The company has released organizational changes related to the spinoff of its MB Paper Business. The new company, which will be renamed, will be headed by current MB Paper pres. Graham Bender.
In addition, Glenn Ferguson was appointed sr v.p. and CFO. Alice Laberge was named as sr v.p., finance for MacBlo. Jess Beaman was named v.p., business transformation.
LONGVIEW FIBRE CO.
Marvin M. "Rusty" Smith Jr. has been appointed v.p., purchasing for the company. He had been purchasing mgr. since 1990. Gary D. Lounsbury has been promoted to sales district mgr. for the Twin Falls, Idaho, container plant. Robert D. Daily has been promoted to mgr. of the Longview, Wash., container plant; he replaces John Womack, who retires after 38 years in the industry. In the Western Container Div., Ken D. Gettman is now v.p., sales, West Coast region and David M. DalSoglio is v.p., sales, Intermountain region.
INTERNATIONAL PAPER
In the Fine Paper Div., Margaret McDonald has been named product mgr., Beckett Papers. Hans M. Bjorkman has been named product mgr. for Hammermill Writing, Text & Cover Papers, while Amy Cole has been named product supervisor of that same division.
GEORGIA-PACIFIC CORP.
Stephen E. Macadam has been named sr. v.p., containerboard and packaging. In addition, the company named six other vice presidents. Macadam, previously a principal in the Charlotte, N.C., office of McKinsey & Company, will have management responsibility for G-P's containerboard and packaging businesses, except for containerboard manufacturing.
Ronald L. Paul, exec. v.p., wood products, has assumed responsibility for the company's building products distribution division and has been named exec. v.p., wood products and distribution. George MacConnell, sr. v.p., distribution and millwork, has resigned effective immediately.
ENCORE PAPER CO.
Scott Milburn has been named to the position of mgr. of group and national accounts. This is Milburn's second promotion in 1997; previously, he was territory sales mgr. for the southern region.
GILMAN PAPER CO.
James Yockey has been appointed v.p., national accounts/Southern region sales mgr. and Paul Blackman has been appointed v.p., asst. sales mgr.

Roger Gehring has been promoted to worldwide COO of Christian Dalloz. Joe Reimer has been appointed pres., Dalloz Fall Protection.

William A. Kitchen has been named pres. of ABB C-E Services Inc. In this new position, Kitchen will be responsible for ABB's boiler services activities worldwide.

Victor L. Brown has been appointed dir., sales and distribution, Chemical Products Group.

Norman E. Drapeau Jr., the company's exec. v.p. and newly named COO, has been elected to the board of directors. He replaces Michael Marvin, chairman of MapInfo Corp., who had resigned from the board and was recently appointed CEO of Interactive Learning International Corp.

In an effort to focus more on control and automated valves and advanced control solutions, the former Neles Jamesbury Group was renamed Neles Controls Group and restructured into two business divisions with global operations, and one company with operations in North America. Rainer Korko has been appointed pres. of Neles Controls' Pulp & Paper Div. Matti Kahkonen has been named pres. of the Process & Energy Div.
NASH ENGINEERING
The board of directors has elected Dennis Campbell to succeed the recently retired pres. and CEO, John Kubovic. Campbell was previously exec. v.p., Sikorsky Aircraft.

Tom Krieg has been named v.p., worldwide sales and Ray Downey has been named dir., European sales, in the company's newly formed Paper Pigments and Additives Enterprise. Jan Jeffries has been named dir., marketing, and Bill Goble has been named dir., product management for the same division.

Two scientists from Paprican, Keith B. Miles and W. Donald May, have been awarded the Marcus Wallenberg Prize for their groundbreaking research into woodchip refining. The prize was established in 1980 by Stora.
OBITUARIES
HERCULES INC.
Stephen A. Walkden of the Paper Technology Div. died Dec. 11 in Wilmington, Del. He was the market development mgr. for Brazil/Asia Pacific. Walkden had been with the company for 21 years, first joining with A.C. Hatrick in Australia. He was well-known and respected for his contributions to alkaline sizing and wet-end papermaking; he held a U.S. patent for pulp sizing.
THERMO BLACK CLAWSON INC.
Donald F. Lehman, 74, of Middletown, Ohio, died on Jan. 8 after a long illness. Lehman worked for the Black Clawson Co.'s Shartle Div. (now Thermo Black Clawson) from 1953 until his retirement in 1988. Most noted for his contribution to the development of contoured screen plates for pressure screens, Lehman held a number of patents for his invention in the stock preparation area for the pulp and paper industry. The Black Clawson Lehman cylinder allowed screens to run at higher consistencies and capacities with lowered fractionation tendencies.
