Union Camp Corp., Franklin, Va., has ordered stock preparation equipment from Voith Sulzer. Three Omniscreens, one low density cleaner, and one Axiguard are to be delivered for the thick stock screening system on the No. 4 paper machine.
Solvay Paperboard has chosen James Ross Ltd. to provide the showering systems for its new Valmet mini-machine in Syracuse, N.Y. Most of the showers will be Model 44 automatic linear brush showers. These showers are designed to provide automatic whitewater nozzle cleaning. Other showers will be equipped with Rossilator electromechanical oscillator systems to provide clothing and roll cleaning.
Rock Tenn Co., Chattanooga, Tenn., has ordered a winder modernization from A&F Corp. The modernization will consist of a free-standing slitter section, roll ejector, spreader rolls, web threading system, shaftless chucking assembly, lowering cradle, and a PLC-controlled system with a CRT.
Consolidated Papers, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., has ordered a Centrifilter for its kraft pulp mill from Voith Sulzer. The new machine will reduce fiber loss and will be started up in the fall of 1998.
E.B. Eddy Forest Products has ordered an expansion and modernization of its Espanola, Ont., mill from U.S. Filter. The U.S. Filter/HPD evaporator upgrade will increase mill capacity, improve environmental performance, and increase cost effectiveness. Changes will include alterations to existing evaporation equipment for improved environmental performance and an additional high solids concentrator.
Provincial Paper, Thunder Bay, Ont., has placed an order with A&F Corp. for the rebuild of a Cameron winder. The rebuild will consist of rewind core shaft carriages and a rewind weight relief system.
Austell Boxboard, Austell, Ga., has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the supply of new paper machine dryer gearing for the No. 1 paper machine.
Green Bay Packaging, Green Bay, Wis., has ordered a Rejectsorter from Voith Sulzer. The new machine was installed to help in fiber savings and reducing landfill costs. The installation of this tailing device for the coarse screen rejects is scheduled for the end of 1998.
Ivex Corp., Joliet, Ill., has ordered two RDE-3060 paper machine winders and reel spool unwinds from A&F Corp. The winder face for both machines is 120 in. and rewind diameter is 60 in. The heavy-duty reel spool unwind will handle 72-in. rolls. The winder will have motorized deckle adjustment, motor driven rider rolls, and a special roll ejector for ejecting small rolls at 8 in.
Superior Recycled Fiber Industries, Duluth, Minn., has ordered a SpectroScreen for the coarse screening loop process from Voith Sulzer. The SpectroScreen will be installed in the first quarter of 1999 to increase production at the recycled fiber plant. In addition, Superior has ordered two secondary flotation cells from Voith Sulzer for installation in the third quarter of 1998. The new EcoCells are designed to reduce dirt count from office waste in pulp production.
Stone Container, Hodge, La., has ordered a linear-brush system from James Ross Ltd. to facilitate the cleaning of its suction pickup on paper machine No. 4.
Champion International, Sartell, Minn., has ordered a complete thick stock screening system from Voith Sulzer. This system includes two Eco Screens and one VPS vertical pressure screen. The system, using the Eco Screen technology, was designed to reduce contaminants, coating scratches, and breaks. Startup is scheduled for the first quarter of 1999.
To upgrade the speed potential of the No. 1 paper machine at its Constantine, Mich., mill, Simplex Products has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the design and manufacture of new taper cone pulleys.
For its No. 3 board machine, Fort James, Pennington, Ala., has ordered a Superflex doctor and a lube shower from James Ross Ltd.
Wisconsin Tissue Mills, Menasha, Wis., has purchased a Contaminex CMS pulper detrasher and a screen drum for the stock preparation pulping process. The new machines were designed to increase the safety and efficiency of the trash handling and will be installed at the end of 1998.
Roosevelt Paper Co., Philadelphia, Pa., has ordered a Jagenberg winder rebuild and a six roll overhead wrapper unwind station from A&F Corp. The winder rebuild will consist of new frames, updated shaftless chucks, dual spreader rolls, refinish drum rolls, and new bench board with PLC controls. The roll wrapper is 92 in., with a 48-in. wrapper roll diameter.
Alliance Forest Products Inc., Montreal, Que., has selected Voith Sulzer to supply the new paper machine for the company's Donnacona, Que., mill. Startup is scheduled for the year 2000. The 234-in. machine will produce uncoated groundwood soft-nip calendered printing papers similar to SC-B and up grades.
Georgia Pacific, Augusta, Miss., has ordered additional high-pressure wire cleaning showers on its pulp former from James Ross Ltd.
CMPC Group has ordered two Smart Pulp Platform (SPP) systems from ABB for its Pacifico and Santa Fe mills in Chile. Both SPP systems will be used to measure not only kappa numbers, but also dissolved lignin, fiber size, and process stability along the entire fiber line in each mill. The fiber line in the Pacifico mill will have five samplers and the Santa Fe mill will have six. Delivery and startup are scheduled for fall of 1998.
