After 46 years in the paper business, Goldman Paper Group founding father Joe Pesole has announced his plan to retire. He formed The Paper Group in 1979 with coworker John Dwyer, which subsequently joined forces with G.B. Goldman Paper Co. last year.

Dr. Dieter Kurth, chairman of the board of management of Voith Sulzer Finishing GmbH, and a member of the board of management of Voith Sulzer Papiertechnik GmbH & Co. KG, will retire. His successor will be Dipl.-Ing Thomas Koller.
GEORGIA-PACIFIC
Douglas A. Thom, v.p.–packaging, has elected to retire as of Dec. 31. Thom joined G-P 30 years ago at the San Francisco, Calif., packaging plant, where he began as a supervisor. He was elected v.p.–packaging division in 1985 and v.p.–containerboard manufacturing in 1988. He was renamed v.p.–packaging following the GNN acquisition in 1990.

SANDWELL ENGINEERING
The company regrets to announce that Herschel Herrin Cabe passed away on October 23, 1998, after a brief battle with cancer. Cabe had 40 years of diverse experience in design, purchasing, installation, sales and service, and operations for many facilities in the pulp and paper industry.
Paper Industry Hall of Fame Inducts New Members
The Paper Industry Hall of Fame (PIHF) honors committee and board of directors announced its 1998 inductees at its fourth annual awards ceremony this past October. Richard E. Olson, chairman and CEO of Champion International Corp., and Corey Cove, administration director-economic development for the Wisconsin department of commerce, were keynote speakers for the Appleton, Wis., event.
Formed in 1992, PIHF honors individuals, living or deceased, who have been instrumental in helping the world’s paper industry flourish. Recognition is based on contributions in the areas of technology, economics, leadership, academics, service, marketing, and product or process development. PIHF also collects and displays artifacts, documents, photographs, and other memorabilia illustrating the industry’s heritage at its Neenah, Wis., location.
Eight inductees were selected for 1998 and honored at the Appleton awards ceremony. These were:
• Joseph E. Atchison, president and owner of Atchison Consultants Inc., Sarasota, Fla.
• Hugh J. Chisholm (deceased), founder of International Paper Co., Portland, Maine, and Oxford Paper Co., Rumford, Maine.
• Brenton S. Halsey (retired), co-founder of James River Corp. and chairman emeritus of Fort James Corp., Richmond, Va.
• George W. Mead, chairman of the board of Consolidated Papers Inc., Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
• Frank J. Sensenbrenner (deceased), president and chief executive officer of Kimberly-Clark Corp., Neenah, Wis.
• Roy P. Whitney (retired), vice president of academic affairs and dean for The Institute of Paper Chemistry, Appleton, Wis.
• Robert C. Williams (retired), co-founder of James River Corp. and chairman emeritus Fort James Corp., Richmond, Va.
• Peter E. Wrist (retired), president and chief executive officer of the Pulp & Paper Research Institute of Canada, Point-Claire, Que.
