Tony Carter has been named engineering mgr. Carter will lead the budgeting and implementation efforts for investments, expense, and major repairs within the company's Rumford facility.

William R. Manzer has been appointed v.p., East Operations. Manzer will lead the company's efforts to build on the synergies between the Madawaska, Maine; Edmunston, N.B.; and Thurso, Que., mills.

Thomas D. O'Connor Jr. has been promoted from exec. v.p. to pres. and COO. Walter Duignan, who currently serves as exec. v.p., has been promoted to vice chairman and exec. v.p., sales. John F. Haren has been named exec. v.p., finance, and CFO; Kevin P. Richard has been promoted from sr. v.p., operations and research, to exec. v.p., operations; and Clifford J. Dave Barber, Wisconsin Rapids, has joined the company as a technology analyst; Murray Bienvenue, Plover, has joined IT as a computer systems analyst; and Leroy German, Wisconsin Rapids, has joined the company as a lead technology support analyst. Charlie Hoyord, Greenwood, has joined the company as a project systems dev. analyst; Carey Koskinen, Plover, has been named project technology analyst; and Marty Burkhardt, Junction City, has been promoted to stock process shift superintendent. Dan Herman, Wisconsin Rapids, has been named environmental mgr. at the Wisconsin Rapids Pulp Mill. Kari Schroeder, Wisconsin Rapids, has been promoted to occupational health nurse; and Mori France, San Mateo, Calif., has joined the Stevens Point Mill's sales and marketing dept. as account mgr., flexible packaging and technical papers. Jeffrey Djock, Appleton, has been appointed shift supervisor on No. 95 production line; and Amy Guzman, Appleton, has been named process planner.

J.P. AuWerter, the current chief restructuring officer, has been named to the additional position of interim CFO.

MANZER

RIVERWOOD INTERNATIONAL CORP.

Thomas M. Gannon, exec. v.p., commercial operations, will be in charge of the company's new consumer products packaging business charter. Gannon appointed James E. Monahan Jr. as v.p. and gen. mgr. to head the new business. The consumer products packaging management team reporting to Monahan include Lee A. Andrews, gen. sales mgr.; Patti Gettinger, product mgr., Omnikote; Michael J. Roman, gen. mgr., Z-Flute; Michael D. Zoeckler, bus. dev. mgr., Z-Flute; and Pamela A. Buckel, mgr., finance and admin. G. Phillips Jones, v.p. and gen. mgr., soft drink business unit, will continue in that position and has been assigned the additional responsibility of expanding the company's non-beverage, machinery-based consumer packaging business. Edward J. Schindler has been named bus. dev. mgr., assisting Jones.

Gayle L. Powelson, sr. v.p., has been elected to the additional position of CFO.

David F. D'Alessandro has been elected to the company's Board of Directors. D'Alessandro is pres. and CEO of John Hancock Financial Svcs. Inc.

Charles R. "Chuck" Snavely has been elected v.p., finance and taxes; and Parag P. Bhansali has been elected v.p., investor relations.

ABB AUTOMATION INC.

Jorgen Centerman, presently head of ABB's automation segment, has been named pres. and CEO of the company, effective Jan. 1, 2001. Centerman will be taking over for Goran Lindahl, who, is leaving the company after 30 years of service.

Armin Meyer, currently vice chairman of the board, has been appointed CEO and chairman of the company.

J. Robert Leighty has been named CEO of the company. Leighty, currently exec. v.p., will assume all executive responsibilities for the operation of the company. Leighty is replacing Derek Coomber, who is withdrawing from the day-to-day operations of the company. Retaining his title as pres., Coomber will serve as a consultant to Leighty.

Peter Zisson has been promoted to mgr., online marketing; Tom Courtney has been promoted to sr. assoc. counsel in the company's legal dept.; and Barry Enix has been named corporate safety dir.

Michael Ianiro has been named commercial dev. mgr., paper pigments and additives group.

Dan Smolens has been named dir., utility sales, combustion and environmental controls group.

Peter Thompson has been named engineering mgr. Kurt Uihlein, exec. v.p., will assume the new responsibilities as pre. and CEO of the company.

Tom Kregel has been named mgr., systems sales. Kregel's key responsibility will be to assist in the development of the automated systems group.

Brent H. Burdick has been promoted to dir., sales and marketing. Burdick has been with the company since 1982.

Mark R. Hallenbeck has been appointed v.p. and gen. mgr.

Charles Peacock has been promoted to ntl. sales mgr., Turn-up Tape and Turn-up System divisions. Roscoe Cross has been named ragional sales mgr., Turn-up Tape division.

Ted Tzafaroglou has been appointed CEO of the company. Tzafaroglou will also retain his current title of COO.

Richard Bartnett has been named div. sales mgr.; Sean Foster has been named transformer product mgr.; and Ivan Campos has been named regional sales mgr., southwestern U.S. and Latin America.

Lon Robinson has been named dir. of engineering. Robinson will manage ongoing production engineering, new equipment design, provide technical expertise to sales reps, and make recommendations for new products.

Andrew Moore has been named v.p., alliances and business development worldwide; and Craig Newfield has joined the company as v.p. and gen. counsel.

PORT TOWNSEND PAPER CORP.

Bill Hall, sr. v.p., marking and sales, has been awarded the President's Recongnition Award. The Award was created to recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the company in the achievement of business or technical objective. Hall is retiring after two years with the company.

ABITIBI-CONSOLIDATED INC.

Michael Desbiens, chairman of the board and consultant to the company, has resigned. Desbiens will remain a member of the board.

BOISE CASCADE CORP.

N. David Spence, sr. v.p. and gen mgr., paper div., passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2000. Spence had been battling cancer for about a year.
