Cylinder and rotor
The ID-2 cylinder and rotor from Thermo Black Clawson improves efficiency along the full length of the screen plate surface from top to bottom. This active screening along the entire cylinder permits use of smaller slots while improving capacity, consistency, and long fiber passage. This provides bottom line results with more high quality fiber and less contaminants going to the paper machine.Thermo Black Clawson

Chippers
Graphite Metallizing Corp.'s new brochure describes the capabilities of Graphalloy bearing applications for use in papermaking. Graphalloy (graphite/metal alloy) is not affected by caustics, does not deform under load, and maintains dimensional stability. It survives loss of suction, simplifies maintenance, increases equipment life, operates at high temperatures, requires no lubrication, and reduces vibration.

Variable profile control
Edge areas of the sheet have always been a problem for papermakers. Walzen Irle has developed a system where the insulation can be adjusted without disassembling of the roll. One turn and the necessary adjustments have been made, keeping the paper profile in shape and providing a more flexible and safer use of the calender.

Non-contacting seal
John Crane's Type 28ST non-contacting seal eliminates the constant problems typically experienced with steam turbine drivers: loss of valuable steam energy, leakage caused by corrosion and rust, and shaft damage. The patented, non-contacting design reduces steam leakage to less than 5%, compared to traditional sealing devices such as segmented carbon rings and labyrinths.

Pressure indicating film
Sensor Products Inc. introduces Pressurex, a tactile force-indicating sensor. The sensor is useful in assessing compression magnitude between any two impacting surfaces. The sensor comes in the form of a large thin sheet (a film); when placed in between impacting surfaces, the sensor film instantly and permanently changes color. The intensity of the color is proportional to the amount of force being applied.
