SUPPLIER NEWS


Georgia-Pacific Corp., Crossett, Ark., has contracted with Integrated Technical Svcs. of Baton Rouge, La., to manage the wastewater treatment facility at its 1,600-tpd hardwood and softwood mill. Two Vin-cent Corp. VP-16 screw presses are used to dewater the clarifier underflow sludge.

Rock-Tenn Co. has ordered a third FCFormer from FCFormtek for its Delaware Water Gap, Pa., mill. The other two units were installed in October 1998 and July 1999. The FCFormers will form the second, third, and fourth ply positions of the machine that manufactures clay-coated boxboard.

St. Marys Paper, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., has selected a KD4/90DT King debarker from CAE Forestry Systems for its pulp mill. It was chosen as a replacement for an existing drum debarker and is designed to provide increased debarking capacity and bark removal capability.

Rock-Tenn Co., Sheldon Springs, Vt., has ordered a gas infrared drying system from Marsden Inc.

At SP Newsprint in Newberg, Ore., PaperExchange’s e-marketplace has been integrated with MAJIQ Systems and Software’s Elixir order fulfillment and production management system.

Georgia-Pacific Corp. has purchased a KD6/120DT King debarker from CAE Forestry Systems for its pulp operations at Port Edwards, Wis. The debarker replaces existing drum debarking equipment for processing mixed hardwoods in the manufacture of sulfite pulp.

Windsor Stevens Co. has ordered two Octopus stock approach systems from FCFormtek for its Poquonock, Conn., mill. The Octopus systems will replace the two “V” hopper inlets on the rotoformers to reduce cross-machine profile variation.

MERGERS/ACQUISITIONS


Rader Companies Inc., Atlanta, Ga., has repurchased the shares owned by Coinpasa Equipment and Systems, Bilbao, Spain. In addition, the transaction includes the purchase of the assets of Rader International AB in Stockholm, Sweden. The senior management of Rader, along with Coinpasa, purchased the assets of Rader Companies Inc. from Beloit Corp. in March 2000. Rader International AB is a 40-year-old company specializing in the pulp and paper and forest products industry throughout Europe, Russia, and South Africa.

BTG Pulp & Paper Technology, manufacturer of process measuring technology for the pulp and paper industry, has acquired the majority of the shares of Muetek Analytic GmbH, Herrsching, Germany, provider of laboratory and on-line charge measurement. BTG and Muetek will share existing sales and service networks, and will cooperate closely to develop new devices and applications.

The Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D) has acquired the Italian Orsi Group, Genoa, Italy. Orsi is a supplier of industrial manufacturing execution systems (MES).

The Canadian operations of Ashland Specialty Chemical Co.’s Drew Indus-trial Div. have completed a cash-for-assets purchase of Finnan Engineered Prod-ucts Ltd., a water treatment services company based in Toronto. Manufacturing and warehousing will be consolidated with Drew Industrial’s current operations in Ajax, Ont., near Toronto.

Parkson Corp., a supplier of wastewater solutions, has acquired American Bulk Conveying Inc., designer and manufacturer of wastewater solids handling systems.

JOINT VENTURES


Jacobs-Sirrine Consultants, management consultants to the pulp, paper, and allied industries, and Maxager Tech-nology Inc., developers of advanced profit analysis software solutions, have announced an alliance to support pulp and paper manufacturers in maximizing profits across their operations and provide a time-based view of profitability.

MaintenanceResources.com, a source for plant engineering and maintenance products and information, has announced a strategic alliance with OnlineMetals.com, an online supplier of small quantities of commercial metals. Through the partnership, MaintenanceResources.com will provide its audience of plant engineering and maintenance professionals with access to a small quantity metal services center.

WOW Logistics, a warehouse and distribution company, and Wisconsin Fulfillment Inc., a full service fulfillment company, have announced a partnership between the two companies. The partnership, called WOW Fulfill-ment Group, will respond to all requests in the areas of order fulfillment, returns processing, pick/pack, and shipping.

Yokogawa Electric Corp. and Ando Electric Co. Ltd. have signed an agreement in which the two companies will collaborate on business strategies for their measurement and electronic device testing equipment.

Siemens Energy and Automation Inc. has joined vertacross.com, an online b2b marketplace for the automation and control industry, in expanding its online sales and marketing presence by establishing a crossStore. A crossStore exposes a manufacturer’s customers to a larger audience of automation and control professionals.

Also, verta-cross inc., parent company of verta-cross.com, has partnered with Put-man Media, publisher of automation and control industry publications. Putman will provide content, such as application and editorial information.

EXPANSIONS/MODERNIZATIONS


Siemens Moore Process Automation Inc., provider of process automation solutions, has completed the renovation of its manufacturing area in Spring House, Pa. Renovations to the facility encompassed an 1,800-ft 2 area designed to be a flexible manufacturing center that supports cell manufacturing and rapid changes.

REORGANIZATIONS


Coen Company Inc. has announced the formation of a new business division for the development of new products and non-core businesses. The new organization has been formed in an effort to accelerate future growth by developing new products and new market initiatives and to support additional corporate expansion through acquisitions and merger activity. Coen is a combustion technology provider and supplier of firing systems for utility, independent, and merchant power plants, and industrial and commercial steam generation.

MARKETING/LICENSING


Rader Companies Inc. has signed an exclusive license agreement with Main Engineering of Karlstad, Sweden, for its patented Tubefeeder for North and South America. The Tubefeeder is a true first-in/first-out underpile conveyor for reclaiming woodchips.

Siemens Moore Process Automation Inc. has signed a formal contract with ExperTune to distribute its software. ExperTune is a software package used to optimize process control applications. Siemens Moore will integrate the ExperTune software into its existing ProcessSuite software offerings.

Keystone Aniline, provider of dyes and pigments, has formed a partnership with Chris-Matic Packaging and Chemical. Chris-Matic will represent Keystone as an independent agent and will assume responsibility for promoting and selling all Keystone products in Florida. Keystone will continue to supply support and logistics, including managing all order processing, shipping, and invoicing.

Wolfson Maintenance (WM), an asset management and training consultancy, has expanded its operations into North America and signed Computational Systems Inc., Knoxville, Tenn., as a licensed provider of its WM Training Solutions materials. The distribution agreement covers North America, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand and coincides with the opening of WM’s U.S. subsidiary, Knowledge111, in San Jose, Calif.

Batson Yarn and Fabrics Machinery Group Inc., provider of machinery, parts, and accessories, has signed a sales agreement with Eskay Corp. to sell its automated material handling systems. Eskay is a member of the global Daifuku family, designers and installers of automated material handling systems.

Southern Clay Products Inc., supplier of smectite-based functional additives, has announced several distribution changes. T.H. Hilson Co. will be appointed the sole distributor for Southern Clay’s additives for the coatings, inks, grease, and other industrial markets throughout Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Dowd and Guild Inc. will assume sole responsibility for distribution of Southern Clay’s specialty additives to the same markets in the Pacific Northwest, making Dowd and Guild the Southern Clay representative for the entire West Coast of the U.S. Lintech International will be Southern Clay’s sole distributor in Tennessee, making Lintech the Southern Clay representative throughout the Southeast U.S., with the exception of Florida.

PRICING


Degussa-Hùls Corp. has announced that it will raise all off-list prices for hydrogen peroxide. The price increase in the U.S. will be $0.04/lb (C$130/mton) for all product grades. The price increase is needed to offset the escalating price of natural gas. The company also announced that it will raise its list selling price for all of the company’s QUAB reagent products, including QUAB 188, QUAB 151, QUAB 342, and QUAB 426. The price increase will be 5% globally.

Dow Emulsion Polymers business has increased the prices of styrene/butadiene (S/B) latexes, styrene/acrylic (S/A) latexes, and solid plastics sold into the paper industry by $0.02/lb (dry) in the U.S. or C$.065/kilo in Canada. The company states that the price increases are necessary to restore losses attributed to continued raw material cost pressure.

AWARDS/CERTIFICATIONS


Bayer Corp.’s Paper Colorants & Chem-icals business has been honored by Inter-national Paper with a 2000 Gold Supplier recognition award. The award is given to only a few suppliers each year as part of IP’s Supplier Quality Assurance program.

Nine Motion Industries locations have achieved ISO 9002 registration. The nine facilities are Clewiston, Fla.; Fort Pierce, Fla.; Thomasville, Ga.; Horsham, Pa.; New Castle, Pa.; Weirton, W. Va.; Owensboro, Ky.; Jackson, Tenn.; and Guelph, Ont.
