Olaf Bärlund will head up UPM-Kymmene's new Asia Pacific Projects unit in Singapore. Heikki Peltola, who will take charge of technological matters, is to report to Bärlund. Soile Korhonen, also reporting to Bärlund, will run the company's new representative office in Beijing, China.
Markko Ihamuotila has been appointed vice president of business development and marketing for Finnforest's Engineered Wood Division. Ihamuotila takes up his new post following a move from Metsä-Serla, where he acted as chief business analyst. Finnforest has also formed a management board for its Engineered Wood Division. The board members are Ari Martonen (chairman), Ole Salvén (managing director of Metsä Prima), Heikki Castrén (director of the Kerto business unit), Markku Luktasela (director of Metsäliitto's Luxiwood business, Matti Hasanen (director of the TIWI unit, Markko Ihamuotila and Jari Laine (business controller).
Canada's GL&V has elected Victor Bilodeau to the position of president of its Pulp and Paper group. Bilodeau will work out of the Atlanta office and brings with him 25 years of experience in the pulp and paper industry. The new president was formerly executive vice president of Kamyr, president of Ahlstrom Services and COO of Ahlstrom Machinery.
International Forest Products (IFP) announced that Michael Sasso has rejoined the company as senior vice president of International Containerboard Sales. In this role, Sasso will manage and oversee all of IFP's export containerboard sales. He worked at IFP from 1986-1996 as manager of transportation and logistics as well as manager of Latin American sales.
Richard Payne Jr has joined First Union Capital Markets as a managing director heading up its corporate finance efforts in the Building and Forest Products sectors. Payne has more than 20 years experience in investment banking across several key industry sectors and product groups. He will be based in Charlotte and will report to Johan Papadopulos.
