NOTES
For 2000 and 1999, results of companies in the Euroland countries have been converted into euros. The fixed exchange rate has been used. Some results may differ from the results in local currencies due to the fluctuation in the dollar/euro exchange rate. Sales are net sales. Earnings are net earnings (profits). Earnings are calculated after tax, excluding extraordinary items.
An asterisk following the name of a chief executive indicates a new CEO.
An 'e' is a PPI estimate and indicates that the company declined to supply data.
An 'na' means not available and indicates that the company declined to supply data and no estimate was possible.
An 'nm' means not meaningful.

1 The increase in Georgia-Pacific's (G-P) results is due to the inclusion of a new distribution business in 2000. G-P took over Fort James in November 2000. The financial results for 2000 only include one month of Fort James data, but the production figures are for both companies.
2 P&G is included for the first time this year. Information was not previously available. Net sales include tissue, towel, feminine care and baby care divisions.

5 Nippon Paper Industries and Daishowa Paper merged to form Nippon Unipac Holding from March 2001. Figures for 2000 are pro rata.
