ABOUT PPI AWARDS 2011

Congratulations to the PPI Awards 2011 Winners!

Awards Winners

Organized by RISI, the leading information provider to the global forest products industry, the PPI Awards program honors leadership, vision, innovation and strategic accomplishments within the pulp and paper industry. The PPI Awards are the only global awards dedicated to recognizing the achievements of companies, mills and individuals in the pulp and paper sector.

Launched for the first time in 2009, the inaugural PPI Awards were held in conjunction with the Metso Pulp and Paper Technology Days and a half–day RISI Seminar in the city of Munich, Germany, in October 2009. Based on the positive feedback in 2009, RISI decided to make the PPI Awards program an annual event. The PPI Awards 2010 were held in Brussels, Belgium and were held alongside the CEPI European Paper Week event. The PPI Awards 2011 will be returning to Brussels again on Novemebr 15, 2011.

The PPI Awards provide an opportunity for pulp and papermakers worldwide to show off their achievements on a global platform. Companies who choose to enter the PPI Awards submit their entries online for one or more categories. These entries are then judged by an international panel of independent judges. The finalists are chosen and invited to attend a gala dinner where the winners are revealed and presented with their trophies by the sponsor of each category and a celebrity host.

The PPI Awards gala dinner attracts attendees from various parts of the supply chain and includes financial analysts, suppliers, pulp and paper producers, marketing agencies, consultants, international press and associations. The evening provides excellent networking opportunities and access to high level guests from around the world. To view a list of attendees at the PPI Awards 2010 and the PPI Awards 2009, click here. Countries represented in previous PPI Awards include many European countries, USA, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Thailand, India, China and Middle Eastern and African countries.

The PPI Awards program has proved to be a popular new launch in the industry judging by the high quality applicants, the number of entries and the attendance at the event by leading companies in the industry.

CEPI European Paper Week 2011

The PPI Awards 2011 are being held in conjunction with the CEPI European Paper Week which will be held from November 15–17, 2011. This year's theme is the "European Paper Industry – the bio–value industry". Climate Action Commissioner Connie Hedegaard will be speaking on the afternoon of Wednesday November 16. Over 300 delegates from the four corners of the globe will gather to share latest industry trends and innovations. For more information, please visit the CEPI website www.cepi.org

Who can enter?

The Awards categories are divided into three areas: Individual Awards, Company Awards and Mill Awards. The categories have been chosen to highlight some of the key issues facing the P&P industry and cover business and technical topics.

The Awards are designed to reward companies, mills and individuals involved in the pulp, paper and paperboard industry (and relevant downstream/upstream operations such as forestry, converting, etc). The categories would not be suitable for entries from financial analysts, suppliers, consultants or end–consumers of P&P products.

The Awards are open to participants from all countries worldwide. Please check with your head office or corporate staff that you have the approval to enter the Awards.

Who judges the entries?

An international panel of judges, made up of industry experts, selects the finalists and winners. RISI selects these judges based on their relevant expertise in the industry and each judge is assigned to one or more panel.

The independent judges use a strict criteria list to look at each category and discuss the merits of all of the short listed entries individually. Please be sure to look carefully at the criteria before entering the Awards and make sure to submit as complete an entry as possible.

Sponsors of the PPI Awards 2011 are not involved with the judging process.

Who can attend the PPI Awards event?

Everyone who has an interest in the pulp and paper industry is welcome to join the PPI Awards ceremony and dinner. Participants are also welcome to join the RISI Seminar in the afternoon. Whether you are a supplier, consultant, producer, marketing agency, association or financial analyst, the PPI Awards is a must–attend event for you this year.
