Duncan Pollard
Director, Conservation Practice & Policy
WWF International
Born in England, Duncan has an honours degree in Forestry from Aberdeen University in Scotland, and is a Chartered Forester and Chartered Environmentalist. Married with one daughter, Duncan lives in Switzerland, and enjoys skiing, hiking and family holidays.
Following graduation he spent over 17 years in the forestry industry, working in Africa, the UK and South America in a variety of business development and operational roles including planning the wood supply for the start-up of Shell/Scott Paper/Citicorp Santa Fe pulpmill in Chile, the development of the Shell/UPM plantation project in Uruguay, and implementing ISO9000/14001 and FSC certification for Scottish Woodlands Ltd in the UK.
In 2001, Duncan joined WWF International as Head of the European Forest Programme, and in 2006 he became the Director of the Global Forests Programme, during this time he strengthened the engagement with the corporate sector. In 2007 he became the Director of Conservation Practice & Policy Division. It has responsibility for major programmes working with industry on water, energy, paper, timber, palm oil, and shipping. It also leads WWF’s policy work with the EU, UN institutions and the World Bank; and ensures that there are consistent approaches to WWF’s work across a diverse range of subjects such as oil & gas, finance, poverty & conservation, and bioenergy.

Rod Young
Chief Economic Advisor
RISI
Rod Young started modeling and forecasting in the pulp and paper industry in 1977. Since then, his work in international pulp and paper markets has received worldwide recognition. Rod now consults on a regular basis with companies throughout the world. He continues to assist in the development of the RISI analysis and forecast of the world pulp and paper market, along with working on individual projects.
Rod became Chairman of RISI on January 1, 2007, after serving for nearly two years as the company President and CEO. His new role includes advising on the strategic development of RISI and exploring opportunities to broaden the scope of information services provided by RISI.
Rod received a Master of Science degree in Forestry Economics from Virginia Polytechnical Institute in 1977 and also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from Michigan State University.

John Pollard
Packaging Supply Technology Manager
Unilever
I am a “Packaging Supply Technology Manager” for Unilever. This means that I provide technical support to those responsible for purchasing Paperboard Packaging for Unilever, wherever in the world this is done.
I was born in Northern Ireland in 1959, I read Mechanical Engineering at Queens University Belfast. During this time I sent a summer in South Africa working on a diamond mine. This gave me a taste for travel and I was subsequently fortunate enough to have the opportunity to join Unilever, with whom I have spent my working life to date.
I have had a variety of roles in both Engineering and Manufacturing in a variety of businesses. These include Industrial, Speciality Chemicals and FMCG businesses. For the last 12 years I have worked in packaging, specialising in Paperboard packaging for about the last 8 years.
I have lived overseas in USA, Netherlands and Tunisia and am currently based in the UK.
In my spare time I busy myself with Do It Yourself house projects, in addition I recently purchased a 1939 car which I hope to restore. I like going to concerts, air shows and listening to music.
I am widowed and have no children.

Jim Keller

Jim Keller is President of Green Mountain Business Consultants, a consulting business solving a diversity of issues for small and medium size enterprises. He is also the President of the International Corrugated Case Association (ICCA), a trade association representing corrugated producers worldwide on issues of common interest.
After a 33–year career, Keller retired from Weyerhaeuser Company. He was Senior Vice President, Containerboard Packaging and Recycling.
He joined Weyerhaeuser in 1974 as an investment analyst. He then held various positions in the Land and Timber business in roles that included seedling production, genetics research and business development.
In 1981, he became the general manager for the packaging plant in Lithonia, Georgia. He went on to hold a number of sales, finance, and general management positions in various paper products businesses, including containerboard, newsprint and bleached paperboard.
Keller earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Vermont, a Masters of Business Administration from Dartmouth College.

Born in Stockholm 1954. Diploma engineering degree (MSc) from KTH, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, 1989. PhD in Organic Chemistry, KTH PhD studies in pheromone chemistry and stereochemistry applied on forest insects.
1990-1995 Post Doc and since 1996 Senior Chemist at Firmenich SA (Flavour and fragrance) in Geneva.
1995 Senior Research Manager Pulping and Bleaching Chemistry at Innventia (STFI).
1996 Faculty (Docent) in Organic Chemistry (KTH).Since 1998 Senior Research Manager “New Materials and Composites” at Innventia, a Research Institute working for the Pulp, Paper and Packaging industries. Also a PI (Principal Investigator) in the Strategic Competence Centre for Biomimetic Fiber Engineering, BioMime at KTH. Member of the Nationakl Research Agenda committee for the pulp and paper industry. He has developed a concept for integrated materials and product design, Hierarchic Design, which has been presented booth at scientific conferences and during the design week in Milan 2007 and 2010 and at the contemporary museum of modern design 2009. Mikael is a Guest Professor in Interdisciplinary Knowledge transfer at the Experience Design Group at Konstfack, the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, where he is doing research and teaching interdisciplinary knowledge transfer with focus on material science and materials identities.

Philip Lawrence

Bob has spent 30 Philip Lawrence has a Masters Research degree in a theory area, Ecological Modernization, his research was a case study of the printing industry sector, which includes the pulp and paper sector. He is currently a PhD candidate at Macquarie University in Sydney Australia where he is exploring Ecological Modernization in regard to international government policy on climate change as it relates to the forestry, pulp and paper industry.
Philip is the Managing Director of Eco Logical Strategies, a Consulting Think Tank engaged in environmental policies in the case if governments and organizations.
He has been involved in all facets of the printing industry sector for more than 35 years. Including paper, printing, pre–press and publishing.

Maria Enroth holds an interdisciplinary doctoral degree from The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, KTH, combining media technology and environmental science as well as a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Stockholm. She has more than 20 years of experience from environmental and sustainability work as a researcher and consultant. Maria has always worked very close to industry, developing and implementing different kinds of tools for their work. Tools such as strategies, management systems, supply chain management, different kinds of indicators, eco-design and sustainable product design.Maria Enroth holds an interdisciplinary doctoral degree from The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, KTH, combining media technology and environmental science as well as a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Stockholm. She works a lot together with pulp and paper companies as well as media and packaging companies. Since 2008 she is working at MSG Management System Group as a partner and consultant.

Phillip Lawrence

Bob has spent 30 years in the paper industry as papermaker with Wiggins Teape; convertor with Svecia Antiqua and since 1992 as merchant with Robert Horne and now with parent company PaperlinX. As both Marketing and Commercial Director of Robert Horne, he has been involved in the development of environmental brands and positioning.
It has been that interest that has led to his latest role as Sustainability Director for PaperlinX Europe. In this role Bob develops sustainable supply chain and commercial strategies and works with the different Operating Companies of PaperlinX across Europe to implement them locally.
He is a Council member of PRIMA and now works closely with the TwoSides and PrintPower campaigns that promote the sustainability and effectiveness of the print medium.
Bob is a family man, based in Bedfordshire in the UK. When not selling paper he fly fishes for wild brown trout – the wilder the location, the better.

Neil McCubbin

Since immigrating to Canada from Scotland in 1965, Neil McCubbin’s professional activities have been almost entirely related to pulp and paper industry. Initially, he worked in mills and later as a consultant to various interested parties in Canada and overseas. In the earlier stages of his career he worked on detail design of pulp production, pollution prevention and effluent treatment systems. Latterly he has concentrated on process and environmental studies. Many of these have included assistance in resolving conflicting environmental issues and reaching consensus amongst management of the pulp and paper industry, environmental advocacy groups, and regulatory agencies.

Hugh O'Brian

Hugh O'Brian has a wide background in the paper industry. A native of Buffalo, New York, he has a BS 1979 from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. Following this he earned a Master’s degree 1981 from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wisconsin.
His experience in the industry itself covers about eight years in technical, research and production work in the paper industry in the USA and Sweden.
In 1985, he joined Pulp & Paper International Magazine at Miller Freeman’s European office in Brussels, Belgium. Working initially in editorial positions, he subsequently was named executive editor and director of exhibitions.
In 1998, after 13 years in Brussels, he moved to Helsingborg, Sweden, where he lives with his Swedish wife Marie and their two children. At the same time, he formed Aquaview AB, which is focused on technical communications and consulting, mainly within the pulp, paper and tissue businesses.

Joined KNP/UK (Royal Dutch Paper Mills) in 1984 in technical services. Technical Manager from 1988, through merger with Leykam-Murztaler(Austria) in 1994 to KNP–Leykam/UK, and acquisition by Sappi(SA) in 1998.
Left in Spring of 1999 to set up Technical Services Merchant Division for Metsa–Serla (M–real)/UK. From 2004–7, responsible for technical sales for UK publishing merchants business.
Joined Paperlinx/HSPG merchant group Summer 2007, to re–develop publishing business and promote print waste management procedures for HSWO printers.
Semi–retired end 2008, since when various consultancy work in paper/print technical advisory, and specifically working for a major publishing merchant as an environmental consultant.
Very much involved with UK based independent technical association– APPT (The Associates in Paper & Print Technology) since 1988, both as a former Chairman and responsibility for publicity.
Recently completed OU/BA degree. Particularly keen on world travel with my wife, DIY, good food & wine, cycling and bad golf.

Mark Williamson
Engineer and Freelance Journalist
Mark Williamson, Journalist Engineer, specializes in writing technical papers and technology application articles for publication in pulp and paper industry magazines and industry supplier newsletters. Since 1991, he has worked as journalist and technical communicator for a number of suppliers, producing over 200 articles for all major pulp and paper journals. The topics of his works include pulp and papermaking technology, process and product quality measurements, automation, quality control, industrial chemicals, energy generation, recycling, and process optimization.
Previous to his present business, he held several engineering, marketing and product management positions for Valmet Automation and for Sentrol Systems in Toronto, Canada. After graduating in chemical engineering in 1972, he joined Domtar as a papermaking process engineer. He is member TAPPI and a Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada.
Teresa Presas

Teresa Presas was born in Portugal in 1952 and has worked in the paper industry since 1982 when she joined Tetra Pak Portugal as Director of Communication and Marketing Services. She later went on to become Director of Communication and Environment for Tetra Pak Europe, Middle East and Africa and then, Vice President of European Affairs for Tetra Pak Europe and Director of Corporate Environmental Affairs for Tetra Pak International. She has been the Managing Director of CEPI since September 2003.
Teresa has a degree in psychology from the Instituto de Psicologia Aplicada, Lisbon and in 2008 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Helsinki University of Technology.
