We have an opening for a senior web developer - someone who lives and
breathes the web and open source JAVA based technology.
About Us
We're an information provider that utilizes the web in nearly every aspect of
our business. Our products are magazines, online databases, online
charting/graphing/sorting applications, and subscriber based web portals. Our
customers are businesses that depend on our mission-critical information for
many of their most-valued transactions. Although we support a traditional
industry - our products are online first and innovative amongst our audience.
We're also in high-growth mode with more development ongoing than we can
shake a stick at. Our business is growing, our customer demands are
increasing, and our online products are developing quicker than ever. We're
expanding our web development team and looking for someone who is interested in
building, re-building, and supporting many web products. This position reports
to the Director of Web Development.
About Our Technology
Our technology is modern and based on the JAVA based open source J2EE
framework. We use many of the typical JAVA based web technologies - Linux,
Apache, Tomcat, MYSQL, Lucene, Hibernate, Subversion, Omniture, Eclipse, and
various other related tools for development. We invest in our technology and
our people - you won't be bored here.
About You
First and foremost: love the web and building its products. Want to be part of
a growing, yet mid-sized company with a lot going for it.
We are looking for a person who will be responsible for the design, development
and maintenance of small to large web-based applications. Additionally this
person will be responsible for supporting internal as well as external users
and must possess strong written and verbal skills - meaning, you need to be
able to communicate with various types of folks.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years building web based applications based on top of
JAVA, be familiar with the software development process, and be capable of working in a team or independently
while communicating with various types of people.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with J2EE and the fundamentals of object-oriented
programming, including software design concepts and design patterns
- Familiarity with Tomcat, Spring, Hibernate, MYSQL, and Eclipse based
development within the MVC/IoC architecture
- Experience in various phases of project lifecycle, including
requirements gathering, software design, development and testing
- Ability to work effectively in both Red Hat Linux and Windows operating
system environments
- Solid database skills with MySQL
- Experience coding in JSP, Tiles and Velocity
- Experience working with Eclipse IDE and Subversion
- Experience using both Apache and Tomcat
- Experience coding XML/XSL
Experience with the Following is also Desired but is not Considered a Mandatory Requirement:
- A big plus would be development experience within a Media or other Information company
- Experience with AJAX
- Experience coding in Ruby on Rails nice to have
- Experience coding Perl and PHP
- Experience with Lucene
- Experience writing Unix shell script
