Background


RISI is the leading publisher of news and information for the forest products industry. We publish newsletters, magazines, special reports, books and much more. RISI has offices throughout the U.S. and internationally, and is looking to fill a position in its Bedford, MA, office (just outside of Boston). RISI offers excellent opportunities, including training in developing economic-based models and co-authoring high-profile industry publications.


Responsibilities


The Economist's primary responsibility will be to support the Economic Analysis unit's Fiber Group, which specializes in analysis of world wood pulp and recovered paper markets and industry trends. Initially, responsibilities will include updating and managing our extensive databases of industry time-series data, as well as developing new sources of data, both from published material and through survey work. Most of the computer work is done in Excel, Eviews, and a proprietary econometrics software package. Analytical responsibilities will grow with experience.


Desired Skills and Traits

  • Master's degree in Economics (Finance also considered)
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Strong interest in doing very practical applied industry analysis
  • Ability to write clearly for a sophisticated customer base
  • Ability to think creatively and work independently
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Superior attention to detail

Compensation


Compensation will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
