RISI Industry Jobs - Wood Products Economist



RISI is the leading publisher of news and information for the forest products industry. We publish newsletters, magazines, special reports, books and much more. RISI has offices throughout the U.S. and internationally, and is looking to fill a position in its Bedford, MA, office (just outside of Boston). RISI offers excellent opportunities for young professions, including training in developing economic-based models and co-authoring high-profile industry publications.


Core Responsibilities:


The Economist will develop forecasting models and will contribute to RISI's written and oral presentation of the forecasts. Analytical responsibilities will grow with experience.


To gain experience in producing analyses and content for publications, the Economist will initially be responsible for updating and managing our extensive databases of time-series data, as well as developing new sources of data, both from published material and through survey work. Most of the computer work is done in Excel and a proprietary econometrics software package. This person will also produce tables and charts for our monthly and quarterly publications, among other responsibilities.


Desired Skills:


The successful candidate for the Economist position will have the following attributes:

  • Master's degree in Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Economic Theory; Micro, Macro, and Econometrics
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Effective Communication Skills; Oral and Written
  • Solid computer skills, preferably in use of Excel and Eviews
  • Ability to think creatively and work independently
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic
  • Second language is a plus

Compensation


Compensation will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
