Primary Responsibilities
We are looking for a leader to drive one of our economic forecasting & analysis practices - our Timber service. This service covers many aspects of the Timber markets: supply/demand indicators, price forecasts, and global views across sawtimber, pulpwood, chips, wood biomass, etc. This position requires in-depth analytical and economics experience understanding these components of the timber markets. The candidate will run an information practice on the North American timber markets and will be required to produce a series of existing products covering an economic forecast on the ins and outs of the Timber market.
Additionally, we take our commitment to our clients very seriously, and the service also requires frequent client interaction, travel, client-facing skills, and strong relationship building. We would like someone who can understand our customers' timber businesses and how to apply critical information to help them in their success, participate in industry events and associations, and ensure we are creating a valuable service. Our customers are mills, financial analysts, large corporations, and everyone in-between - corporations, investors, TIMO's, traditional financial organizations, and more.
We have a multitude of resources available at your disposal as we have been producing many of these forecasts and research for nearly 40 years. We have the largest set of historical data, pricing information, confidential cost data, mature econometric models, relationships, and collective minds working in analyzing these markets.
Skills Required
- 10+ years real world economic forecasting, analysis, or strategic planning within the timber markets: ability to understand, create, and drive development of a forecast is required
- High initiative: ability to lead development of a practice, build quality insight/analysis, connect with customers, and evolve valuable services for their needs
- Strong communication skills, writing, analytical skills, and verbal
- Commitment to deadlines, ability to focus and deliver quality results when we promise them
- Strong focus on quality: the quality of our insight/analysis and service is how we define our success
- People skills, ability to work with our macroeconomist, lumber teams, panels teams, biomass teams, pulp & paper teams, sales & marketing teams, etc.
- Management: ability to lead and develop analysts and economists to perform detail work in-support of your tasks
- Entrepreneurial nature: desire to grow a practice and share in that success
- Strong ethical standards
Desired Education & Degree:
- Economics; MA/MS
- Practical experience in forest products required
