Paperloop to launch Pulp & Paper Week China
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 31, 2003 - Paperloop revealed plans to further increase the company's representation in and coverage of the Chinese market upon signing a contract October 15th at the China Forest & Paper Executive Club (CFPEC) meeting in Shanghai - a gathering of key Chinese paper-related companies including Shandong Chenming Paper Corp., Shandong Sun Paper Corp., Shandong Huatai Paper Corp., APP/Sinar Mas Paper Co. Ltd., Dongguan Nine Dragons Paper Industries Co. Ltd. and Vinda Paper (China) Co. Ltd. The contract formally confirmed an agreement with PacificNet Holding Corp., producer of ChinaPaperOnline.com, to jointly launch a new, Chinese language weekly news service, "Pulp & Paper Week China," to serve Chinese readers in the Asian pulp and paper industry. The first issue of the new newsletter - an online publication with the facility for readers to click through if desired to obtain deeper information - will be published early November, 2003.
Pulp & Paper Week China will incorporate latest news, market trends, prices and statistical information from Paperloop's three leading paper industry newsletters, Pulp & Paper Week, PPI Asia News, and PPI This Week and will be written by Paperloop's worldwide editorial team. It will be edited, translated and marketed for readers in China and throughout Asia by PacificNet Holding Corp. staff, based in Beijing.
Financed by sponsorship, the new news service will be provided free, initially, to over 6,000 qualifying subscribers chosen by PacificNet and Paperloop. "From now on, Chinese readers will be able to access timely worldwide industry news and market information provided by PPW, PPI Asia News and PPI This Week," according to Jimmy Lu, CEO of PacificNet. Peter Cardellichio, Vice President at RISI, Paperloop's economic forecasting division, commented on the growth rate and significance of the industry in China, "China's paper industry production has been growing at 9%/year during the past decade and the country's industry now accounts for over 50% of the paper industry's capital spending worldwide."
Paperloop's largest newsletter, Pulp & Paper Week, began publication in 1979 and is the most widely read newsletter serving the North American paper industry. It is also well known in Asia. PPI This Week is the leading European and international paper industry newsletter, while PPI Asia News, launched in 1998, covers the entire Asian paper industry from Singapore.
"We are very pleased to work with PacificNet to serve the information needs of China's growing pulp and paper industry and to further extend our services to the vitally important Asian market," said Ian Johnston, CEO of Paperloop. In addition to newsletters, Paperloop produces a China Pulp & Paper Directory (also in collaboration with PacificNet), covers Asian markets in PPI magazine, analyses Asian pulp and paper, graphic paper and paper packaging market dynamics through RISI, and organizes events such as CMM Japan, the new Tissue World China event (scheduled for December 2004 in Shanghai) and Asian Paper (jointly with CMP Asia).
