Paperloop Benchmarking Services strengthens global coverage with new studies
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 27, 2004 - Paperloop Benchmarking Services today announced three new studies to further strengthen its global coverage of manufacturing costs in the pulp and paper industry. They include:
Coated Papers Asia report - provides Asian industry background and costs for Asian mills producing coated papers
International Kraft Linerboard and Testliner report - examines current and projects future performance relating to 34 worldwide producers of white top liner, kraft linerboard, and testliner
International Semi-Chemical and Waste-Based Fluting/Medium report - indicates emerging trends and consequent challenges facing international producers.
These reports enable producers of pulp and paper to measure their cost competitiveness, make more effective business decisions relative to each mill and product segment, and improve their competitive position.
Dan Temple, director, Marketing & Sales, Paperloop's Benchmarking Services explained, "We developed these new reports in response to market changes that are forcing companies to adopt a far more global outlook. Asian exports are explosive due to new, world-class capacity in Asia (particularly China) and low-cost wood and labor in the region. European imports are increasing in spite of a strong Euro. Because of these factors, U.S. paper companies need to invest in new technology and low-cost capacity to compete with European and Asian producers. Thus, these reports will be of interest to North American companies as well as those in Europe and the Far East."
Paperloop Benchmarking Services reports that 114 new machines across pulp, paper and paperboard were added in North America from 1990 to 2003, in contrast to a count of 358 machines that were shut down over the same period.
More information about these reports as well as other Benchmarking Services products is available at www.paperloop.com/benchmarking.
Paperloop's Benchmarking Services group was acquired just over a year ago by Paperloop from Jacobs Consultancy (previously Jacobs Sirrine). The group provides an easy-to-use cost benchmarking database, Analytical Cornerstone, which contains details and costs on close to 900 individual mills and supports the publication of over 20 reports. Benchmarking Services recently collaborated with RISI, Paperloop's forecasting division, to produce a new report that considers the outlook for Southern (U.S.) Pulpwood Markets.
