RISI announces partnership with association of consulting foresters and expansion of stumpage pricing service

BOSTON, MA, August 16, 2007 - RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry, today announced a partnership with the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF), whose mission is to promote the practice of consulting forestry and to educate and assist landowners on good forest stewardship. As part of this partnership, ACF members will participate in RISI's Timber Transaction Price Service (Timber TPS), a powerful web-based database of timber sales that provides objective reports of sawlog and woodfiber stumpage prices. Timber TPS' online reports and analytical tools allow for quicker and more accurate assessment of the market value of timber and timberlands.

Under the partnership, ACF members will enter the timber sales in which they are involved into Timber TPS. They will in turn have access to analytical tools to help them evaluate their own sales as well as anonymous sales data of all other participants in the Timber TPS community. Because ACF members are involved in such a large percentage of all timber transactions, the result of members' participation in Timber TPS is an unparalleled database of timberland sales that lets users see actual stumpage prices paid for timber - including assorted grades of sawtimber, softwood pulpwood, hardwood pulpwood, chip-n-saw and other hardwood products.

RISI and ACF formally presented the partnership at the ACF National Conference held last month in State College, PA. Since that time, the rate of contributions of transaction data to Timber TPS has more than doubled.

"ACF is a natural choice for a partnership," according to Paul Jannke, Senior Vice President of RISI's Wood and Timber division. "ACF is not only one of the largest associations of forestry professionals around, it's also a group known for promoting ethical business practices," he said. "We couldn't be happier to be associated with them."

Lynn Wilson, Director of the Association of Consulting Foresters added "Not only does this partnership provide tremendous value for all active ACF members, but RISI is an organization that is known in the industry for their integrity, an ideal that very much resonates with our membership." She continued, "We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with RISI."

Jannke said that developing Timber TPS was a strategic priority for RISI. "Timber TPS has long been the most affordable source of timber transaction data available," he said. "With this agreement with ACF, we hope to establish the broadest and deepest coverage available as well.

Currently, our coverage is mostly for the US South, but we are actively working with ACF as well as several large TIMOs to add coverage for Pennsylvania and New York by the end of the year and Maine, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia by the first quarter of 2008."
