PPI Pulp & Paper Week begins reporting label paper prices
BOSTON, MA, Jan. 30, 2012 (Press Release) - RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry, today announced the addition of label paper prices reporting for rolls sold to US converters. The prices began appearing in the January 20 issue of PPI Pulp & Paper Week, a subscription service that delivers monthly price reports and weekly market news on the North American pulp and paper industry.
A specialty paper with US demand of approximately 650,000 tons last year, label paper is being priced monthly in PPI Pulp & Paper Week for the grade 40-lb Supercalendered Kraft (SCK) release liner label paper (2.5 mil), per million square feet (MSF).
"Label paper is one of the few grades that has shown incremental growth over the past several years and through the recent recession," said Greg Rudder, Editor of PPI Pulp & Paper Week. Reflecting on the sources of this gradual market expansion, Rudder added, "We are seeing good global demand for labelstock items such as prescriptions, beverages and food products, which require paper labels. A portion of this rise in demand can be attributed to overall market growth in China and Latin America."
Globally, pressure-sensitive labels is a top growing specialty paper, with shipments increasing a total of 3-4% from 2008 to 2010, according to an industry report from AWA Alexander Watson Associates.
The addition of paper label pricing enhances PPI Pulp & Paper Week's lineup of existing specialty printing and writing paper grades that includes thermal, carbonless, and magnetic/optical character recognition (MOCR).
