Brazilian bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp export volumes closed out 2013 with a 10.8% increase to 9.43 million tonnes over 2012, according to the latest data released by the Brazilian pulp and paper assn (Bracelpa).
In the period, pulp production grew by 7.3% to 14.9 million tonnes, while imports increased by 4.6% to 430,000 tonnes, and domestic sales amounted up to 1.65 million tonnes, a 0.4% retraction over the numbers registered in 2012. As a result, BEK pulp apparent consumption increased by 2.1% to 5.99 million tonnes.
