BRUSSELS , Jan. 25, 2013 (RISI) -
The folding boxboard (FBB) producer Cascades Djupafors lost the second round in court over a fatal accident at its Kallinge mill in Sweden in 2009. The Scania and Blekinge Court of Appeal has upheld the SEK 2 million ($306,000) fine imposed by the District Court of Blekinge last year.
The case concerns a 26-year-old man who was squeezed to death in a reeler at the Kallinge plant after he entered a risk area on June 9, 2009. The area was protected by an approximately one-meter-high fence with an interlocked gate. It was, however, possible to open the gate whilst the machine was coming to a halt. The man had either gone through the gate or jumped the fence.
