Earthquake in Chile shuts pulp capacity, likely to extend global pricing run



SAN FRANCISCO , March 1, 2010 (RISI) - The global pulp industry, already on a bull run that's outlasted the expectations of most, will see conditions tighten even further in the wake of Saturday's 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile and idled several market softwood and hardwood kraft pulp mills, contacts told RISI. Producers not impacted by the quake were already mulling a new April 1 price hike, and analysts today began mulling over their pricing forecasts.
