BRUSSELS , Oct. 22, 2013 (RISI) -
Holmen permanently halted production on the 140,000 tonne/yr supercalendered (SC) paper unit PM 3 at its Hallsta mill in central Sweden this morning. The firm also stopped the site's 80,000 tonne/yr stone groundwood pulp line.
Holmen announced the closure in October last year. The machine was supposed to be stopped towards the end of September, but this was pushed back slightly as negotiations with the union took more time than initially planned. As a result of the closure, 146 blue-collar positions and 27 white-collar jobs have been cut.
