Rolling strikes hit Stora Enso’s WLC mill in Spain

BRUSSELS , Jan. 17, 2013 (RISI) -

Stora Enso's 170,000 tonne/yr white-lined chipboard (WLC) mill in Barcelona has been hit by industrial action after the CCOO union called on workers to down tools during 19 days, one day per week, until the end of April. The union is protesting against the company's decision to cut employees' wages by 15%, the CCOO said in a statement. The rolling strikes started on January 4 and are expected to end on April 23.

The company management declined to comment on the strike but confirmed that the company is carrying out the salary reduction to enhance the competitiveness of the WLC segment.
