BRUSSELS , March 7, 2014 (RISI) -
Sappi Fine Paper Europe has begun a process to cut 40.5 positions within maintenance and local technical projects at its Lanaken mill in Belgium and its Maastricht mill in the Netherlands.
At the Lanaken mill, the firm is cutting 29 jobs, but of these only people occupying 3.5 positions will actually be made redundant. The rest of the reduction will be carried out through early retirement, insourcing activities that were being carried out by other companies and through changes of job tasks within the company. At the Maastricht mill, the company is cutting 11.5 positions, and the people occupying 6.5 of these will be made redundant. The rest of the reductions cover contractors that will stop working for the firm, a company spokesperson explained.
