Construction of the 1.3 million tonnes/yr Montes del Plata bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp (BEK) pulp mill in Uruguay is still suspended six days after a contract worker fell to his death at the site.
Forty-seven year old Mario Andrezejuk Malacre, a Uruguayan employed by the Andritz outsourcing company Ukitig Oy (Patolmax SA), died in hospital after falling about 11 meters (35 feet) during assembly work at the Punta Pereira mill site on Jan. 29.
