Price for uncoated woodfree (UWF) paper have remained unchanged in the first month of the new year. The increases a few suppliers envisaged for January did not materialize. However, market insiders reported that the downward trend in prices the market saw in Q4 last year came to an end and that demand was on the rise and order books were growing again.
Following a period of stable prices and low demand over the summer months last year, the upswing in order intake manufacturers had hoped for did not materialize after the end of the vacation period. In the following months, pressure on prices kept mounting amid thin order books, and some suppliers' plans to raise UWF prices towards the end of the third or beginning of the fourth quarter could not be realized.
