Questions Answered
The Outlook for Global Recovered Paper Markets will help you understand the structure and tradeflows of present and future recovered paper markets, and identify new investment/procurement opportunities.
This study will help you answer questions such as:
- What are the trends in paper and board
demand and their implications for recovered
paper markets?
- Where and how is supply keeping up?
- How will furnish developments affect
the market?
- How will policy issues affect the market?
- What will the future hold for collectors,
processors, buyers and end-users?
- What is happening in China and how will it evolve?

Who can benefit from this study
This story has been historically used by consumers, collectors and traders of recovered paper around
the world; equipment suppliers to the recycling industries and organizations involved in paper recycling.
Like its predecessors, the current report provides a unique and definitive insight into global developments
in future recovered paper availability and markets.
Study Objectives
- Understand the important trends in paper and board markets and fibre furnish developments, together with their implications for recycled and virgin fiber demand
- Identify regional and national investment and trading opportunities in the recovered paper business as well as paper and board products based on recycled paper
- Understand, for planning and policy making purposes, the critical inter-relations in global recovered paper markets
- Plan national and international sourcing and purchasing strategies for recovered fiber

Chinese Import Sources of Recovered Paper
Executive Summary
The world recovered paper market will continue to evolve rapidly, and sometimes chaotically, over the next five years. Major issues identified in this study include:
- Further strong growth in recovered paper demand in the developing world, especially China, due to: big increases in paper and board demand; limited supplies of virgin fiber; and lower capital costs for recycled-based production.
- Limitations on availability of recovered paper in the developed world to feed the burgeoning demand in the developing world due to already-high recovery rates and supplies of graphic paper grades being undermined by electronic competition.
- Strenuous efforts on the part of governments and papermakers to boost domestic collections of recovered paper in China, in the face of limited supplies from overseas and rising prices for imports.
- A worldwide search for new supplies of recovered paper on the part of Asian papermakers to offset the tightening of markets in the developed world.
- Increasing prices for all grades of recovered paper, particularly those associated with graphic paper grades. Pricing volatility as the short-term supply is repeatedly tested.
- Diversion of fiber, both virgin and recycled, into energy production, creating even more upward pressure on prices of all fibers derived from renewable materials.
