Start-up of the new recovery boiler is scheduled for October 2011.
The energy-efficient HERB technology allows a modern mill to produce more steam, and therefore more electrical energy, to support mill operations. For the Valdosta mill, the boiler is designed to operate at 1,500 psig (103 bar) pressure and a temperature of 920 °F (493 °C). The new unit will replace three existing boilers installed in the 1950's and 1970's.
Upon completion of the project, the Valdosta mill will use only internally generated wood waste and black liquor in its boilers, which will allow it to self-generate 100% of its electricity requirements. The new recovery boiler technology will also significantly reduce the mill's air emissions compared to the older installed units.

The start-up is scheduled for September 2010. The existing Damatic XD automation system supplied by Metso's predecessor Valmet Automation in the 1990s will be replaced with a metsoDNA CR distributed control system representing the latest technology. At same time, the boiler safety system will be upgraded to meet today's requirements. The delivery also includes installation and user training.

Metsä Tissue achieves higher machine efficiency with TissueFlex V3 in Germany

With Voith Paper's TissueFlex V3 on the Yankee Pick-up position of PM 2 at Metsä Tissue Stotzheim, Germany, the machine efficiency increased significantly. The felt lifetime is now 8 to 10 weeks compared to a previous life of 6 weeks. Even at the end of the felt lifetime the machine speed is still 1520 m/min, the maximum speed limit of PM 2. Due to higher speeds over 20 days longer, a net monthly production increase of approximately 7-8 % is being achieved. The energy balance is very good, because even at maximum speed, reserve energy is still available. "We are very satisfied with the performance of Tissueflex V3 and the support of the Voith Paper Fabrics & Roll Systems Tissue team is excellent", stated Production Manager Klaus Zilling.
PM 2 has a trim width of 2,70m and produces 15-17 g/m² white and colored napkins. Tissue produced on the machine is sold under the brand name Mola in the Germanic and nearby European market areas.
The success of TissueFlex V3 is based on Voith Paper's specialty for the challenges in the press section, the well-proven Vector technology. This comprises a tri-axial non-woven base fabric structure that provides elasticity in all three spatial directions for excellent compaction resistance and self-cleaning properties. It also has high active void volume for controlled dewatering and handling large amounts of water. Even pressure distribution leads to more uniform drying whilst the multi-axial structure provides low flow resistance and maintained permeability.

The Upgrade Program, which is designed to enhance business in the short-run, will afford users the opportunity to purchase a higher efficiency pump at a discounted price, and replace lower-performing pumps with an innovative, energy-conserving solution.
"The program is not limited to only replacing other manufacturers' pumps," says Market Development Manager Edward Smiley. "Older Grundfos models in some of the categories will qualify as well, providing widespread benefit to the marketplace. We are offering an unprecedented incentive to upgrade old technology to new, while at the same time improving the customer's use of energy."
Pumps included in the Upgrade Program cover wide ranging industrial and commercial building applications, as well as machine tool, vertical multi-stage, ANSI, and dosing pumps.
The program will remain in effect through December 16th. Additional information is available through Authorized Grundfos Distributors and Sales Staff.

The new load cells are ultra slim and come in three sizes (F17, F25, F35), ranging in overall thickness from 38 mm (1.496 inches) to 65 mm (2.559 inches).
Features of the F-Series include:
 new high-tensile aluminum construction
 wide load ranges
unique adjustable hard stops -- factory set for optimum protection
overload protection which is 10 times normal loads
can be mounted inside or outside the machine frame
 measuring range of 1:25
 reliable repeatability
The F-Series uses tension and compression strain gauges connected in a full-bridge configuration. As tension forces deflect the beam, the gauge resistances change and this produces an output signal which is proportional to web tension.

Roos had established a printing works under his own name in 1942, after buying the plant and equipment from its previous owner, and over time both the Roos family and the business grew. Three of Sigfried's four sons are now part of this printer and carton maker, which became a limited company in 1971 and which, in 1978, was split into two autonomous companies.
Today, the second and third generations of the family are fully committed to these two companies and, despite their apparent independence, cooperation between the businesses is close, particularly when it comes to the purchase of new equipment. The printing plant under Claude Roos and his son Cédric, and the packaging plant overseen by Denis Roos and his sons Thomas, Xavier, and Jean-Denis, are seen as complementary to each other.
Since the very first machines, EMBALLAGES ROOS SA has supplemented its equipment park with a further Emmeci 2004 line to laminate cartonboard boxes and, most recently, has added a BOBST VISIONFOLD folder-gluer.
Denis Roos, whose three sons became shareholders in the business in 2008, says "we concentrate our efforts on the quality of our products and services. Our objective is to hold our course, and that leads us to devote nearly 10% of our sales turnover towards projects that improve performance". Some twelve people work in the packaging plant, the longest serving having worked with the founder on the first BOBST machine the company bought, and the product range manufactured is very broad, from industrial boxes for companies manufacturing turned products, a specialty of the area, to boxes for clock and watch makers, another specialty of this Swiss Jura. 80 % of the customers of EMBALLAGES ROOS are located within the Jura area, which extends from Geneva to Basel, and is known as the Jurassic arc.
The strength of EMBALLAGES ROOS lies in its capacity to realize very short runs and, in addition to manufacturing boxes, the company has used its know-how to develop original solutions such as protective foam packing for clock and watch makers, promotional boxes, and display units. Other carton makers entrust them with their most difficult work for luxury products.
This target of always making quality products has led quite naturally to EMBALLAGES ROOS seeking out a folder-gluer line which can deliver this, yet would also be multipurpose in order to produce straight-line, crashlock, and 4 & 6 corner cartons, as well as small envelopes. The company also required a machine that was quick and easy to set and the BOBST VISIONFOLD meets these needs. Multipurpose in configuration, it produces all conventional types of work, yet being operator friendly it is among the easiest machines to set and run. 98% of the tools remain on the machine, which reduces make-ready times, and adjustments are carried out with just one tool. Additionally, the gluing systems available on the VISIONFOLD are particularly flexible, which means it can easily adapt to the variety of production at EMBALLAGES ROOS.
With the VISIONFOLD and its modularity, EMBALLAGES ROOS has the tools to achieve its growth targets!

Lechler, Inc. is the exclusive licensed provider, manufacturer, and servicer of STAMM showers and oscillators in North America. STAMM created the original "brush and flush" shower system, including patented designs for the mountings. These showers are widely used in pulp and paper mills and in wastewater treatment plants. When replacement shower nozzles are needed, Lechler offers the unique octagonal flat fan nozzles in spray angles ranging from 15º to 75º (most common is 60º), as well as round 0º, or solid stream (needle jet), versions. These nozzles are readily available from stock and come in a wide range of flow rates. The flat fans, due to their octagonal shape, are self-aligning when used with STAMM bases.

Advanced Voith Paper technologies starts up on St. Regis’ UK lightweight fluting machine

St. Regis PM 6 situated at Kemsley, Kent, United Kingdom had a successful start- up with clothing from Voith Paper after being rebuilt to produce lightweight fluting and liner grades.

Ilim Group upgrades wastewater treatment facility at its Bratsk mill

In the context of its equipment repair program, the Bratsk Branch of OJSC Ilim Group has started to implement an industrial wastewater treatment facility project.
