The International Forest Products Transport Association (IFPTA) and RISI today announced the Lord Mayor of Liverpool is confirmed to make an appearance and greet the delegates at the Welcome Reception for the upcoming PPI Transport Symposium 18. The Welcome Reception will take place the evening of October 6, 2009 at St. George's Hall in Liverpool. The Symposium will be held in Liverpool, England, from 6-9 October 2009.
Councillor Mike Storey is Liverpool's longest serving Councillor with over 35 years of public service. Councillor Storey was leader of the city council from 1998 to 2006 and led Liverpool through a fantastic renaissance, transforming the city's reputation and attracting jobs and investment to the city.
He was a key player in Liverpool's successful bid to become European Capital of Culture 2008 and was part of the team who helped the world famous waterfront and historic parts of the city centre become a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Some of the city's newest and most exciting developments such as Liverpool One, the Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre (ACC Liverpool) and the Cruise Line Facility were instigated during his leadership, along with the re-investment in the Pier Head and its new canal link.
The Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress will be on hands at the Welcome Reception to greet guests and make a formal welcome to the city for PPI Transport Symposium 18.
The PPI Transport Symposium 18 Conference Program, titled "Steering the right course to the future," will address the challenges and opportunities for the forest products logistics industry as it prepares to emerge from the global recession. Conference sessions include a global economic outlook, an industry-specific outlook and forecast, a distinguished panel of global paper producers, and a discussion panel on the future role of the logistics company.
