Catalyst invests in Snowflake mill

SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, 2008 (RISI) - Canadian producer Catalyst Paper disclosed that it is investing $7 million on a new boiler at its 375,000 tonnes/yr Snowflake, AZ, newsprint mill, which the company purchased from AbitibiBowater in February.

At a recent meeting to introduce the new owners to the local community, CEO Richard Garneau said that as well as the boiler project he would also like to develop a sawmill in the area that could provide wood chips for the mill.

Snowflake is currently a 100% deinked pulp (DIP) facility. Former owner Abitibi-Consolidated spent $26 million on DIP conversion in 1998/99.
