FMW Austria to supply new chip handling system for Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkar

SYKTYVKAR, Russia, April 3, 2008 (Press Release) - FMW Austria is pleased to announce the supply of an automatic chip storage and reclaiming system for Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkar (Republic Komi, Russia). This order award represents one of the largest order since FMW's foundation almost 50 years ago. Start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2009.

The chip preparation system is designed for a total capacity of 875.000 tons of pulp a year. FMW's substantial part in the scope of supply includes 2 chip piles (storage volume: each 140.000 m3 or 5,000,000 ft3 of chips), as well as our fully automatic reclaiming system that represents the latest in advanced chip handling technology.

This technology represents a 100 % First-In/First-Out-principle, as well as an absolute gentle treatment of chips.

In comparison to conventional storage technologies (longitudinal piles and previous generations radial pile machines) the following advantages are evident:

  • Perfect mixture of chips
  • No chip damages
  • 100 % active storage volume, no death volumina
  • Higher yield for digester process
  • Less energy consumption
  • Less building costs
  • Less maintenance costs
  • Free access to all components for maintenance and start-up
  • Less dust generation and noise emission

Due to this large order award FMW is, once again, increasing its market position in the field of chip preparation.

Since the successful introduction and presentation of the new FMW-Stacker/Reclaimer System in 2000 FMW has already supplied multiple plants in Europe, South America and North America.

FMW offers machines ranging from 9.000 to 300.000 m3 (300,000 to 11,000,000 ft3) of storage volume to meet a wide variety of client requirements.

The same technology, with slight modification, is available for large bark storage.
