Forscot Scottish pulp plant delayed
BRUSSELS, April 25, 2008 (RISI) - Forscot's planned pulp mill and biomass power plant in Scotland has run into further funding difficulties.
Work on the 550,000 tonne/yr northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp plant was expected to start this year, but a reliable source for funding has yet to be secured. A revised timetable is not available at present.
Forscot originally proposed to build a 420,000 tonne/yr mechanical paper facility as well, but was forced to shelve this aspect of the project due to problems raising the necessary funds. The firm hoped that a simplified proposal would prove more attractive to potential investors, and that the option of building a paper mill could be revisited at a later stage.
The pulp facility, which will sell its high-quality NBSK reinforcement pulp to manufacturers of publication papers, will be self-sufficient in energy thanks to the biomass plant. Surplus energy will also be available for sale on the open market.
