MONTREAL, QC, Feb. 5, 2008 (Press Release) - The Pulp and Paper Group of GLV Inc. continues to record significant activity on the international scene. During the first three weeks of January 2008, it has notably been awarded six large-scale contracts worth a total of approximately $34 million.
Between the end of September 2008 and March 2009, this group will deliver 22 disc filter units valued close to $16 million to various pulp mills owned by a major Asian producer.
In addition, the Pulp and Paper Group has been awarded three contracts totalling approximately $12 million for various pieces of equipment related to the chemical pulp preparation technologies acquired in December 2006. In February 2009, the group will supply a Compact Press(tm) pressure washing system worth $5 million to a Brazilian producer, as part of a facility optimization project aimed at improving the customer’s production quality and costs.
At the beginning of calendar year 2009, it will also finalize a contract totalling more than $5 million to provide a new pulp mill in Portugal with a comprehensive system including one Compact Press(tm) pressure washing unit, one disc filter, two thickeners, five screens, as well as ancillary installation, start up and training services. The third contract consists in the July 2008 delivery of a SuperBatch(tm) cooking system to an Asian pulp producer.
Furthermore, the Pulp and Paper Group will participate in rebuilding and upgrading a two-ply paper machine for a major linerboard producer in the United States by providing, in the fall of 2008, two BTF(tm) headboxes with automatic dilution control, totalling over $4 million. In September 2008, finally, the group will deliver a $2 million disc filter to a producer in Sweden.
"In addition to the size of these contracts, it is interesting to note that they come from four different geographic markets and relate to three distinct technologies for pulp preparation and paper finishing," indicated Richard Verreault, President and Chief Operating Officer of GLV. "This clearly illustrates the strategic turn effected by the Pulp and Paper Group in recent years, in order to enhance its presence in emerging pulp and paper producing regions while consolidating its leadership in equipment rebuilds in North America, and to enhance its technological portfolio in response to the evolving needs of the global pulp and paper industry. For instance, the Pulp and Paper Group currently ranks among the world’s leading providers of disc filters and pulp washing and bleaching systems. In this last particular market niche, the new technology centre set up in Karlstad following our December 2006 acquisition is now fully operational and strongly contributing to the Pulp and Paper Group’s international visibility. Furthermore, since we acquired the BTF(tm) technology in 2000, we have delivered more than 70 units of this equipment which ensures superior-quality paper production at an economic cost."
