India’s Abhishek goes commercial on new PM

SINGAPORE, March 25, 2008 (RISI) - Abhishek Industries has brought a new printing/writing paper machine on stream at its Barnala mill in Punjab state, India. Commercial production kicked off on March 15, following trial runs in January.

Allimand supplied the 275 tonne/day unit, which has a wire width of 5.1 m, a reel width of 4.45 m and a design speed of 1,000 m/min. Output is in a basis weight range of 45-110 g/m².

The Rupee 6,800 million ($170 million) scheme also included a new 225 tonne/day pulp line supplied by Metso, as well as a chemical recovery plant and an effluent treatment system from unspecified suppliers, which all came on stream in January.

The Barnala facility houses another unit, the 60,000 tonne/yr printing/writing PM 1.
