Klingele starts up equipment in Germany

BRUSSELS, April 04, 2008 (RISI) - Klingele Papierwerke is carrying on with an expansion program at its mill in Weener, northwest Germany, and at two of its converting plants.

The company started up a new online printing and diecutter machine from Bobst at its converting plant in Werne in western Germany toward the end of March. A 12,500 m² building to house the unit was finished in December.

The project is part of a Euro 200 million ($315 million) plan that began in 1999.

Klingele is also in the process of constructing a waste incineration energy plant at the Weener facility, using a range of suppliers, including Baumgerter for the main boiler. The plant, which had its first trials in March and is scheduled to go online in May, should provide all of the mill’s steam needs and 4 MW of its electricity needs.

Klingele is also expecting the delivery of an inline flex printing machine at its converting plant in Remshalden Grunbach in south Germany in June, soon after the construction of a new building to house it wraps up. The Bahmüller & Göpfert unit should be fully operational by September.

Last December, the company completed the revamp of the sole machine at the Weener plant, the 220,000 tonne/yr recycled containerboard machine PM 2. Voith Paper rebuilt the unit’s press section and increased its drying capacity.

A Klingele spokesman said that the Voith work, which was quality-driven, looks good so far. The machine has seen a small increase in speed, but an expected capacity increase of 10% capacity cannot be confirmed yet.
