Kombassan restarts PM in Turkey

BRUSSELS, April 03, 2008 (RISI) - Kombassan has brought PM 2 back online at its fine paper mill in Konya, Turkey.

The restart follows a Euro 2 million ($2.7 million) project that has equipped the machine with a new sizer and headbox, courtesy of Vaahto.

PM 2 is a 1950s-era Andritz machine, which was installed in 1995. It has a capacity of 50,000 tonnes/yr. It had a maximum speed of 600 m/min before the upgrade, which should increase to 700 m/min.

The machine’s capacity may go up as a result of the rebuild, as it will stem breakdowns and tonnage rejection. But according to Vaahto, the main purpose of the work was to increase the surface quality and cross-dimensional profiles of the machine’s paper.
