Mondi commissions rebuilt paper machine at Felixton in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG, April 7, 2008 (Press Release) - Mondi today announced the successful start-up of its rebuilt corrugated packaging paper machine at the Felixton operation. The rebuild will see production increased from 110,000 to 155,000 tons per year, with full production capacity likely to be achieved in 2009.

The construction and start-up phases have been completed on time and within budget, by the multinational project and construction team including Mondi representatives, suppliers and contractors from South Africa, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, United Kingdom and France.

Initial indications on quality have been good, with saleable paper being produced within a few hours of start up.

The fluting produced at Felixton is used in the production of corrugated packaging. The main market sectors for this product are agricultural and commercial corrugated packaging, which require high quality flexographic print and superior compression strength to ensure protection of goods in transit. Examples include boxes to transport fruit, home appliances and clothing.
