Myllykoski increases MY GOLD production

ANJALANKOSKI, Finland, June 03, 2008 (Press Release) - MY GOLD, the top-class magazine grade developed and launched by Myllykoski Paper a couple of years ago, has reached top credentials among customers and a demand that has exceeded supply for quite some time already.

The popularity of MY GOLD among customers is based on its ability to fulfil the niche between coated LWC and uncoated SC magazine papers, with some properties clearly outperforming those of the LWC.

MY GOLD – a superior combination of brightness, opacity and bulk

MY GOLD is presently produced in grammages 54 to 70 gsm. Apart from the high brightness, one of the best properties of MY GOLD, is the good body, thanks to its bulk and high opacity. MY GOLD is a prime example of Myllykoski's long-term product development, in close co-operation with its customers.

Step by step Myllykoski Paper has progressed from standard SC products, through high-bright MY PLUS, to the SCA++ category, and MY GOLD. The new Plattling Papier mill of Myllykoski's alliance partner will become the prime producer of MY PLUS.

Excellent alternative to LWC and MFC papers

"The majority of our 350.000 ton annual SC-capacity is already allocated to MY GOLD. The speed of the transition to this top product clearly surpassed our expectations. Customers quickly realised the potential of MY GOLD as the perfect alternative to standard LWC", states Marianne Solkinen, Marketing Director of Myllykoski Paper.

The upgrades made at the beginning of April on PM 7, Myllykoski Paper's largest paper machine, facilitate full capacity utilization of both PM6 and PM7 into the production of MY GOLD offset and gravure paper. The start-up of the second phase of the peroxide bleaching plant at the beginning of March, guarantees the availability of high-quality bleached groundwood for the production of this top grade.

The European mills of the Myllykoski Group are functionally divided into two production lines. Myllykoski Paper is part of the coated paper group, because the mill's whole SC production is classified as coated, due to its very high quality. MY BRITE, the MWC of Myllykoski Paper, has also established itself as the top brand within the MWC category.
