Omya and Shiraishi establish production joint venture

OFTRINGEN, Switzerland, April 14, 2008 (Press Release) - Omya and Shiraishi Kogyo Kaisha, Ltd of Japan are intensifying their cooperation to supply the European adhesive and sealant markets.

To supply these markets, with ultra-fine precipitated calcium carbonate, they have founded a production joint venture operating under the name of Shiraishi-Omya GmbH in Golling (Austria).

Omya and Shiraishi have had a business relationship for over 35 years, with Shiraishi representing Omya ground calcium carbonate slurries for the Japanese paper industry.

In 2005, the fruitful partnership led to the agreement for Omya to distribute in Europe the Japanese made ultra-fine PCC products of Shiraishi Kogyo.

Shiraishi-Omya GmbH will be producing dry coated products with a primary particle size of less than 150 nano-meters based on Shiraishi Kogyo’s technology and the marketing through Omya’s existing European sales organisation.

As a result the partners will be positioned to supply a range of top quality products with leading technology of Shiraishi Kogyo Kaisha Ltd specifically tailored to meet the European requirements and needs.
