Steinbeis Temming invests in new power plant
BRUSSELS, June 20, 2008 (RISI) - Steinbeis Temming Papier has started the construction of a new power plant at its Glückstadt mill in Germany.
The refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facility, which will supply Glückstadt with both steam and electricity, represents an investment of about Euro 100 million ($153 million). It should come online in 2010. Austrian Energy & Environment received the contract for the 95 MW RDF facility. It will run on paper fiber sludge, coal and light fuel oil.
The plant currently produces 40% of its own energy requirements on five boilers and two steam turbines. The new plant will boost this to 50%.
According to Michael Söffge, the company's CEO, the power plant is a prerequisite for the new paper machine planned for the site. Steinbeis Temming obtained a permit for a new PM in 2002. The company declined to reveal further details for the moment.
