Sun Paper starts up APMP line at Chinese mill
SINGAPORE, March 25, 2008 (RISI) - China’s Sun Paper has started producing alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp (APMP) on a new 100,000 tonne/yr line at its mill in Yanzhou city, Shandong province.
A spokesman said the Andritz line began trial runs at the end of December and that the tests had gone well. Woodchips to feed the pulp line come partly from the firm’s own poplar plantations nearby, while the shortfall is met by purchases from the market.
Sun Paper is using most of the APMP produced to replace imported bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp as the furnish for fine paper production on two machines, the 160,000 tonne/yr PM 19 and the 250,000 tonne/yr PM 21, at the Yanzhou facility.
The balance feeds the plant’s two cartonboard machines, PM 17 and PM 18, which are managed by a joint venture with the US firm International Paper, called International Paper Sun Paper Cartonboard. These two machines have a combined capacity of 425,000 tonnes/yr.
