Thermal Energy delivers on Fraser Papers contract

SAN FRANCISCO, April 18, 2008 (RISI) - Thermal Energy International has started delivering "green" power to Fraser Papers through its ForEverGreen Energy Inc. service.

The Ottawa-based company said ForEverGreen, which allows clients to receive clean energy as a utility without having to buy Thermal Energy's systems, has begun delivering recovered waste heat to Fraser Papers's Thurso, QC, pulp mill as part of a six-year, $3.75-million contract.

"Thermal Energy followed the installation plan and delivered and installed equipment according to our specifications," said mill gen mgr Jean Pierre Benoit. "They worked well with the Fraser Papers Thurso team. Equipment started up on time and on budget, with no impact on mill operations, reaching target heat recovery and savings from the get-go."

Fraser Papers has installed Thermal Energy's FLU-ACE waste heat recovery system on the mill's dissolving tank exhaust, saving energy as well as reducing greenhous gases such as carbon dioxide by as much as 10,425 tons a year, nitrogen oxides by as much as 22.9 tons a year, and sulphur dioxide emissions by as much as 131 tons a year. This is the equivalent of permanently removing approximately 2,085 cars from the roads in the area, Thermal Energy said.

"This project clearly demonstrates that Thermal Energy can provide innovative, valuable and cost-effective solutions to combat rising energy costs and reduce greenhouse gases and other emissions – major problems facing industries today," said Thermal Energy CEO Tim Angus in a statement. "This successful FLU-ACE application on a dissolving tank exhaust opens a tremendous market for Thermal Energy, as hundreds of mills across North America have similar exhaust sources and can benefit from this solution."

Fraser Papers has the option to buy Thermal Energy's FLU-ACE system at the end of the contract.
