Voith to rebuild PM1 at Norske Skog Skogn mill in Norway

HEIDENHEIM, Germany, June 17, 2008 (Press Release) - Norske Skog has awarded Voith the contract for a rebuild of the former on the PM 1 in Skogn, Norway. Preceding the contract award, a pre-project study as well as paper machine trials for the PM 1, were performed by Voith. The test results confirmed the rebuild potential in terms of improving paper quality. The PM 1 produces newsprint at an operating speed of 1,250 m/min.

For the rebuild in Skogn, Norske Skog is placing its trust in Voith's proven hybrid former technology. The convincing test results and the reliability of the DuoFormer D design - demonstrated in more than 200 installations - provided the decisive impulse for the selection of the DuoFormer D.

Continuous advancements have catapulted the DuoFormer D into ever-higher speed ranges. At Burgo Group in Villorba, Italy, the PM 1 already reached a speed of 1,405 m/min. Speeds of 1,600 m/min could easily be established in trials. However, the DuoFormer D's impressive ease of use and outstanding paper quality have remained constant.

The three paper machines at Norske Skog Skogn in Western Norway produce around 600,000 t/y of newsprint, furnish with approximately two third of TMP and one third of DIP.
