Voith to upgrade PM1 controls at Mondi Frohnleiten

HEIDENHEIM, Germany, May 27, 2008 (Press Release) - Mondi Frohnleiten GmbH has awarded the modernization of the machine control on the PM 1 at the facilities in Frohnleiten, Austria to Voith Paper Automation. The heterogeneous machine control used until now, which is made up of both S5 as well as S7/PCS7 components, is going to be converted by Voith Paper Automation stepwise to PCS7.

The purpose of the conversion is to replace the S5 system in order to insure the availability of spare parts for the coming years. Furthermore, the new system allows an improvement of quality standards, based on optimized process monitoring and unified, convenient operation of the entire, PCS7-based system.

The project will be carried out in two phases: In first step, scheduled for June 2008, the conversion of S5 components to S7 will take place. In a second step, the upgrade of the S7 to PCS7 and the integration of already existing S7 and PCS7 systems are planned but have not yet been awarded.

The paper mill in Frohnleiten was founded in 1884 and ever since has been known for the development and production of premium products using the most modern of papermaking technology. Since January of 2004, the facility with more than 100 employees belongs to the Mondi Group. Per year, over 170,000 tons of special products based on testliner board and corrugated media are produced on the PM 1 and PM 2 machines.
