West Coast installs pulp line at Indian mill

SINGAPORE, May 16, 2008 (RISI) - West Coast Paper Mills has kicked off installation work for a new bleached hardwood kraft (BHK) pulp line at a greenfield plant in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

The 230,000 tonne/yr line was supplied by Metso and is scheduled to come on stream in November. It is part of a Rupee 11 billion ($260 million) scheme which also includes a 135,000 tonne/yr Voith fine paper machine and a 30 MW power plant. Both are scheduled to start up in May 2009.

The greenfield plant is located next to the firm's Dandeli facility, which houses a 106,000 tonne/yr BHK pulp line and five PMs with a total capacity of 163,750 tonnes/yr of cartonboard, uncoated woodfree and kraft papers.
