(Press Release) -
Voith Paper developed new web break detection and new sensor measuring formation in multi-layer machines to enhance the paper machine performance.
OnC WebDetect
With OnC WebDetect, Voith Paper has developed a more reliable solution to problems as too little color contrast between the paper web and the dryer fabric and false detections occurring with transparent paper webs. The measuring principle of the sensor is based on a spectroscopic procedure that takes into consideration the special optical characteristics of the paper web and the dryer fabric.
Before the official launch, the system was fully tested for several months under production conditions and achieved great performance.
OnV FlocSpotter
Voith Paper developed a new formation sensor called OnV FlocSpotter that is able to measure formation directly in the wire section. Formation is crucial to quality in the paper manufacturing process. It is decisive for the uniformity of the paper structure.
With multi-layer machines, formation of each individual layer can thus be inspected separately on the wire fabric before it is joined together with the other layers. The paper maker can therefore achieve maximum control over the sheet formation process and get the information necessary to intervene in the process and regulate it at the earliest possible point.
The advantage is obvious: the uniformity of the board web is increased with better formation, printability and therefore increased product quality. In addition, with OnV FlocSpotter formation limits can be set to a specified level of quality. The operator can then change machine settings as long as the formation remains within the specified range. In this way, raw materials, process chemicals and energy consumption may be reduced.
As well as high-quality board and packaging grades, OnV FlocSpotter is also suitable for graphic papers as using it in the wire section can speed up reactions to fluctuations in the furnish or changes in process parameters.
