Chemical spill injures 4 workers at NewPage mill in Maryland [From the web]

LUKE, MD, Nov. 17, 2011 (Local News) - Four people were taken to hospitals after being exposed to chlorine dioxide that leaked from a storage tank at the Luke mill late Wednesday morning, according to acting Allegany County 911 director Roger Bennett.

Initial reports indicated the injured people were being treated for respiratory distress with two people being taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland and one to the Potomac Valley Hospital at Keyser, W.Va.

The incident at the Luke mill of the NewPage corporation occurred at about 11:32 a.m., prompting sheltering in of Luke mill employees, the town of Luke and closing of state Route 135, Bennett said.
