Omya announced the closure of a 15 year supply agreement with the Ilim Group this week. According to the terms of the agreement, Omya will supply 60,000 tons per year of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) for Ilim's Koryazhma plant in the Archangelsk region of the Russian Federation.
This partnership makes Omya the exclusive supplier of PCC to the plant in Koryazhma. Ilim is adding a new uncoated wood free paper machine at this location. Scheduled start up for the new machine is October 1, 2012, at which time the Omya plant will be ready to supply up to 60,000 tons per year of PCC.
PCC is an essential raw material for paper manufacturing and responsible for key properties such as bulk, opacity and whiteness. Omya won a competitive bid where Ilim assessed items such as product quality, cost, technical capability and technical service, as well as environmental and quality certificates (ISO 14001 and 9001).
