DuPont sets new price hike for titanium dioxide in North America

WILMINGTON, DE, June 23, 2008 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) - DuPont Titanium Technologies today announced a price increase for all DuPont titanium dioxide (TiO2) grades sold in North America.

Effective July 1, or as permitted by contract, North American (United States and Canada) prices for DuPont coatings, plastics, specialty, paper and laminate titanium dioxide grades will increase by six cents per pound (USD). This is in addition to the price increases and paper surcharge previously announced which are in the process of being implemented.

"The costs of energy and related goods and services have risen by 10 percent in a single week's time, forcing us into the unprecedented position of imposing a second price increase within two weeks," said Ian Edwards, global business director -- DuPont Titanium Technologies (DTT). "The rate of change in energy and raw material costs far exceeds the rate of change in TiO2 prices and the gap between the two continues to expand rapidly in spite of the price actions taken to date."

DuPont Titanium Technologies is the world's largest manufacturer of titanium dioxide, serving customers globally in the coatings, paper and plastics industries. The company operates plants at DeLisle, Miss.; New Johnsonville, Tenn.; Edge Moor, Del.; Altamira, Mexico; and Kuan Yin, Taiwan; all of which use the chloride manufacturing process. Technical service centers are located in Uberaba, Brazil; Mexico City, Mexico; Mechelen, Belgium; Kuan Yin, Taiwan; Ulsan, Korea; Shanghai, China; and Wilmington, Del., to serve the Latin American, European, Middle Eastern, Asian and North American markets.
